2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Probably similar.

I missed Maupay off too, it's funny how people slip your memory really!

The point is though, the idea we get anyone as good as DCL, never mind better isn't going to be easy, if we look at recent history.
I assume you must be massively in favour of replacing Purdy and Thelwell in that case because plenty of teams have signed a better striker than Calvert Lewin in recent years. The recent history is that DCL is averaging 5 goals a season. If our recruitment staff can't replace that then they need to be gone

When are you all mostly going to accept that if the engine room - the over lapping fullbacks the slowest wingers - bar one - in the slowest - oldest team in the Prem managed by a Championship Manager - It does not matter who is no 9?

I accept Calvert Lewin has been given a duff hand. I can also see that he'd maybe start for about 5 teams in the league. He's part of the problem when you're listing all the positions that aren't good enough

Broja is a very skilful no 9 - to put it bluntly, when your car engine is knackered it's no good having a nice shiny bonnet

It's funny, I was looking at all other strikers we have had, some of them we have spent huge money on (far more than DCL) and their comparative records.

DCL 56 in 231
Tosun 9 in 50
Beto 4 in 40
Chermiti 0 in 18
Rondon 1 in 27
Ramirez 1 in 16
Walcott 10 in 77
Gordon 7 in 65
Gray 9 in 67
Kean 2 in 32
Broja 0 in 4.

If you looked at that list, the main conclusion is we don't create many chances for our strikers. The second conclusion would be that DCL is by no stretch the worst offender, and quite the opposite really.

He basically has way more goals than the rest of them combined in just over half the games. And they cost way over 100 combined as well, and have contributed 43 goals to DCLs 56. Like I'm doubtful we find the next Alan Shearer when he goes.
And the only one out of that list who consistently starts (started) games - when fit, is Calvert-Lewin!
I’d imagine his minutes per goal would show a different story 🤔!

When are you going to accept he's bog standard Joey? How many seasons of crap goal returns under how many different managers do you want?

Been nearly a decade of it with a good five month spell that he's lived off since.

I feel he has lost interest & 2 yards of pace due to injuries i feel he needs to move on which I think he will -

I reiterate any number 9 under our Manager's tactics of hoof ball & the slowest, oldest team in the prem we need more than a replacement no 9 - two overlapping fullbacks a fast winger with a good cross & a fast midfielder playmaker ....

Dyche has no plan B & the sack beckons, hopefully .....

No I'm not in favour of replacing them, I'm not sure why you would assume that.

Good strikers are hard to come by.

Think it’s hard to not to argue that his injuries last few years have definitely had an impact on his overall playing ability. Regardless of that, his time is up at this club for various reasons.
And you’re right regarding Dyche and his tactics. We wanted to see broja given a chance as he looked lively in his sub appearances, all be it when the games where stretched, but Sunday he looked just as bad as dom and Beto. The tactics if you can call it that going forward really do make it near impossible for the lone striker.

I really do think there are major parts of the players in the team 3-4 that need replacing with faster younger players in the January window & I feel Dyche & the DOF have blown their chances on what we see now .... slowest , oldest team in the Prem ....

Not really he should have not been used - as he is on his way - Broja is the nearest skilful player to him - yet with our set-up - he will struggle under Dyche ball ....sadly
Yeah it's a problem, I can see Broja's legs going after 60mins with the pressing and coverage Dyche expects of the 9. He's a big unit.
But more effective as an isolated 9 with the ball.
DCL type is a classic eg of the limitations of Dyches tactics.

DCL has & looks more used to it - that's all - his confidence is low, & needs pastures new his injuries have taken their toll IMO - he has a job to even hit the target now - as chances are of a premium with our play ..... this transfer window is so important new faces 7 deadwood 4-5 to get rid of because of PSR etc ...
