The proof will be when he goes & plays elsewhere. I was sure Ross Barkley would be world class. That didn’t happen. I thought Anthony Gordon would struggle to hold a starting place due to being lightweight & inconsistent as he was here. He’s kicked on.
We all know we’ve been served up dross for years, maybe DCL is as sick of it as we are & lost all motivation? Maybe he’s sick of abuse? Look at Anthony Gordon, I was there when he gifted possession & chased back 60 yards to give a penalty away that lost us the game, it was as bad as it gets, but absolutely no excuse for what happened later! That was an utter disgrace & absolute justification for wanting out immediately.
For 150k a week, I would happily take any abuse & laugh. It wouldn’t even register, but kids now are sensitive & anxious. Personally, I think he’s very average at this level in every department. I think it’s best for all parties for him to move on. If he’s going for free in July & we can land a striker in Jan, I’d let him go now just to free up that huge wage & use it for better return. If we could get a fee, bonus!

I used to argue that we’re playing him in the wrong system, he doesn’t get enough chances, he just needs to score a goal to build his confidence and then the goals will come etc.
Now I’m not so sure, it now looks more like he had one good season under Ancelotti and will never get to that level again. Sad really.
