The problem is that Rooney seems to inherently lack the discipline to play as a striker and instead chooses to amble around the entire pitch.

It's not an issue of one being better than the other; simply, there is no point in playing him Wayne up front instead of DCL if he doesn't stay there.

No it's not. Rooney has repeatedly shown that he's unable (or unwilling) to play the specific role required to be the centre forward we need.

He may be better a player and he's certainly a better finisher, but you don't score goals when you're needlessly ambling around your own half.

If he maintain a steady position up front then I'd agree with you, however I'd rather have someone in and around the box than no one at all.

DCL needs a decent player in to replace him, not play alongside him. Don't thing he has won one header all afternoon, certainly has not held it up at all.
