Only real way to tell if he's got it is to play him in his position, gives him the best chance to impress and gets rid of any excuses if he has a poor game. Think he could do with a loan to be honest

Whilst the lad is getting games under his belt, koeman isn't doing him any favours by playing him out there. The funny thing is, when Lewin has had a chance to play more central he has actually looked alright.

If Koeman isn't going to play him as a striker, then as you say loan him out where he will be used as a striker.

From what I've seen so far personally I'm not a fan, in saying that his journey has only just begun so he needs a fair crack of the whip in fairness. I just think his touch is heavy and his hold up play is average. Give the lad a chance but I'm not so sure he'll make it. Hope I'm wrong

Find a Championship club who're looking for a centre forward & get him out on loan.

I doubt most people would have a problem with that mate, I certainly wouldn't, but, at the moment, we basically have Rooney and Sandro as front men, so until we get someone else in, I think we need Calvert-Lewin in the squad. While I get the "he's being played out of position" argument, he needs game time to get up to speed with the Premier League, so, while he's our backup, I think it makes sense to get him out on the pitch.

If Giroud signs, he might go out on loan, but that would leave us with two strikers in their thirties and Sandro, so I'm not convinced it's as simple as that. If we had another youngish striker as well as Sandro who has higher up the pecking order, then loaning out DCL would make a lot of sense.

What I don't get is the "he's crap" argument. He's far from crap.

I agree with all of that. Yes, when I said loan him out, I'm assuming we're bringing in a striker.

Agree about people moaning about him being played out of position. Koeman came from a background of players being rounded & able to play in any position. Maybe Koeman thinks playing him wide will strengthen an aspect of his game he needs (centres forwards run channels, dragging defenders etc.). Maybe he just wanted a target out wide to win the ball. Ruzomerok couldn't compete with him & resorted to fouling him, giving free kicks.

I trust Koeman to know what he's doing.

Im a fan. Has a lot of energy, good technique and tenatious. Might not be Messi but I think he's got the right stuff and within a couple of years will be an intergral part of the squad.
