2017/18 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

This lad needs to go out on loan. Haven't seen a single thing from him yet to suggest he should be anywhere near the first team.

I cringe when he's in the first team.

If we're serious about cracking the top 4 we need to be serious about signing a decent forward along the lines of lacazette and Arsenal.

You want to win, buy a goal scoring forward.

Is Sandro our new right-back?

We cannot and will not sign anyone of that ability.

Whilst the lad is getting games under his belt, koeman isn't doing him any favours by playing him out there. The funny thing is, when Lewin has had a chance to play more central he has actually looked alright.

If Koeman isn't going to play him as a striker, then as you say loan him out where he will be used as a striker.
I must admit I'm getting more and more confused by Koeman's insistence on playing him out of position. He is a central striker, no doubt in my mind. Still young and with loads to learn but he has the potential to become a very good target man. His link up play with Klaassen on one of the few occasions he moved inside during last weeks EL qualifier, is a prime example of what he brings.

Rooney is not, in my mind, an out and out striker anymore as he instinctively drops deep. I'd keep DCL here as third choice striker and he'll get plenty of playing time in the cups and as injury cover for Sandro and, hopefully Giroud.

But please Ronnie stop playing him out wide. If nothing else it's giving fodder to the boo boys as this thread amply shows.

I'm sick to death of giroud. He is not our player. Rooney also has never been a main striker. He is a nine or ten. Give Dom a chance in the centre or sign another striker and allow him to leave.

I re-watched the game to focus on a few players and I have to say that he was one of the better players. It made me wish that Rooney or Mirallas had been subbed instead as he provided a great counter attacking outlet with his size out wide. I'd like to see him get a chance with Sandro.

I thought he was sound on night, not perfect but Mirallas was doing nothing but drifting all over the place!

I think more than anyone he needs a loan. He's shown promising things for the first 80% of the time he has the ball, but seems to always mess it up when it comes time to finish.

He needs a season to work on his finishing under less pressure.

He most certainly was back when he was scoring around 25 a season for United. He hasn't been since United bought Van Persie in 2012/13

1) A nine literally is a main striker if you really have to use a number to define a position. Brazilian Ronaldo, Shearer, Joe Royle etc. all main strikers and number 9s in keeping with tradition. Maradona, Pele, Del Piero etc. all supporting/more creative players and wore number 10. Plus Rooney definitely has been a main striker. For years at United he played as the central man in a 4-3-3 or as part of a traditional partnership with Tevez, Van Nistelrooy and others.

2) Why would we let Calvert-Lewin leave just because he isn't ready to play up front at this very moment? Do we not need subs? Is he never going to get better?
