Donald Trump for President Thread

Imagine your whole life being controlled/dictated by a book written by fallible humans 150+ years after Jesus's death.

I hope Trump wins the nomination to remain on topic.

America can't be stupid enough to elect him and conservative right wing nut jobs can't be happy either that he is in the lead.

Pascal was a very clever fellow. have you heard of Pascal's Wager?

The wager uses the following logic (excerpts from Pensées, part III, §233):

  1. God is, or God is not. Reason cannot decide between the two alternatives.
  2. A Game is being played... where heads or tails will turn up.
  3. You must wager (it is not optional).
  4. Let us weigh the gain and the loss in wagering that God is. Let us estimate these two chances. If you gain, you gain all; if you lose, you lose nothing.
  5. Wager, then, without hesitation that He is. (...) There is here an infinity of an infinitely happy life to gain, a chance of gain against a finite number of chances of loss, and what you stake is finite. And so our proposition is of infinite force, when there is the finite to stake in a game where there are equal risks of gain and of loss, and the infinite to gain.
  6. But some cannot believe. They should then 'at least learn your inability to believe...' and 'Endeavour then to convince' themselves.

Would god really be fooled so easily by someone who is just hedging their bets? Most people have such a serious moral problem with religion that, even if their was a god, they'd want absolutely nothing to do with him.

Let me just be honest with you here.

There have been people since the dawn of time trying to find error and contradictions in the Bible and "prove" that it's wrong.

They haven't been able to yet. For those that have tried, there have been easy rebuttals to those "proofs."

But here is some guy on the interwebs saying that it's all false and fake and that it's been proven to be.

Well glad you cleared that up for us. Whew. I was worried that it hadn't been settled.
Name 1 (just 1) major event described in the bible that is referenced, provable or documented outside of the bible itself.

You'd think with all the amazing events described in the bible that there would be scientific, archeological or documented evidence from other cultures... It's almost as if none of it ever really happened...

To be fair mate, whole swathes of the Bible are documented and referenced in other historical documents.

The 'miracles' or events from the Old Testament such as Noah's Ark etc are of course difficult prove however there is evidence of a major flood event in the region and era that is described in the Bible etc.

If you are going to argue against the existence of God then there are far more accessible and solid arguments than cross referencing the events recorded in the Bible against historical and archeological sources

What is important is not that man believes in the existence of God; what is important is that God exists. - Don Colacho

This really. The bible is a mixture of historical recorded events, and Jewish law, poetry songs and lore, as well as being a holy book.
Beyond that taking it as a "gospel and a spiritual guidance" requires faith that there is a divine being who has performed miracles e.t.c.
In no shape or form is it a complete fiction, it holds some element of truth and wisdom in its varying contents. Whether you believe it is the whole truth and indeed the Word of God is up to you.
