Donald Trump for President Thread

Engineering experts have estimated it would cost $25b to build the wall spanning the US-Mexico border. They also expect it would cost that much again in maintenance/patrolling costs etc every 7 years.

What will it achieve? In a practical sense next to nothing. I'm pretty sure every immigrant (legal or illegal) to the USA doesn't just come wandering through the Mexican desert. From a campaign sense it is an actual tangible response to stopping immigration, the whole thing he has worked his supporters into a frenzy about.

The fact that a 3,200 km wall is a serious policy of a presidential candidate in 2016 is astounding. It is basically just throwing money down the drain even before you consider the underlying racist and divisive nature of it.

like I say I find the entire trump campaign hilarious
the great wall of america

national SOCIALISM

they pretty much operated on a quasi command economy and viciously suppressed freedom of speech

friedman they werent

I know I was just messing. They weren't left wing though. I've wanted to read the book on the Nazi's economy for a while now. I've forgotten the name though.

The Nazi economy was fuelled during the 30s by US firms who virtually re armed Germany after the first world war.......War is GOOD for big arms corporations and this still applies - look at the Middle East ffs

Apparently they took their currency off the gold standard and used some sort of labour based system.

The book was called something like the economic miracle.

I've just read this. Outstanding how bad the German economy performed, especially during the War years.

Trump needed some huge statement to propel his campaign, and what better than a massive, concrete, 'beautiful' wall to stop the dirty immigrants getting in. An actual thing, that you can see. Not a policy, not a piece of paper but something physical.

He knows as much as its critics that a wall won't stop illegal immigrants though, because you can't stop them.

Trump doesn't care about immigration numbers. He doesn't care about crime, or about Muslims or mosques. Not really. He cares about people's reactions and how to get people talking, how to fan the flames of fear even more. Because, ultimately, if it works, it will be this which sees him elected.

Wanting to ally with Putin is a good sign. America needs a hands-off foreign policy and Trump is the candidate offering that. Be interesting to see how far he pulls US interests out of the quagmires they're in, could in the long-term benefit everyone.

I feel like americans should appreciate this election.

Both your candidates are so terribly unappealing that no matter the result, you can at least be cheered that you get to see one of them lose. So it's a win win really.
