Why would I want us to decrease our immigrants?

Unskilled immigrants are very important as well. Throughout the history of this country it has been unskilled immigrants who have done the dirty work in building and maintaining the country. The Mexican's of today are no different than the Chinese when we were building a transcontinental railroad.

I'd guess the vast majority of Americans want reduced immigration and I'd also guess that they don't want illegal immigration full stop.

It is not a false statement. If they had to recruit only from US citizens, wages would be higher than they are now because of the economic pressures within the US (ie: a shortage of tech sector graduates, graduates with high levels of student debt, higher costs of living in California etc).

You do realize that a lot of the Silicon Valley immigrants got their education in the United States, right?

We'll see, come the election.

I don't see why.

We'll see if folks actually try to educate themselves on immigration rather than listen to scaremongering rhetoric.

If you think it's wise to spend billions of dollars on building a wall, which could easily be circumnavigated by a row boat, then I'm afraid we're at an impasse.

I'm expecting when Trump realises that Canada will be dropping visa requirements for Mexicans in the next few months he'll be proposing a wall with Canada as well...

Annoying that the only infrastructure project either politcal side are talking seriously about is a great white elephant of a wall rather than fixing our existing infrastructure that the Society of Civil Engineers marks as D+.

Or they could simply outsource the jobs to India. It's not like it hasn't happened often enough.

I wonder why you (and he) haven't proposed a similar wall on the Canadian border.

Because there is less illegal immigration from Canada because of similar living standards and opurtunitues in the two countries. And less threat crime wise, (cartel etc.).
