If we are a comfortable mid table side, I would be all for having a good go in the cups, but we're not. So we have to prioritise the league, especially given the poor start.

If we improve a fair bit with returning players and the new signings, then maybe we can take the FA cup more seriously.

Yeah was more frustrated at our previous lacklustre efforts in the competition. Birmingham, Cardiff, Bradford, Swansea and Southampton all been in the final since we were in a Wembley final.
A limp exit is inevitable again this year.

Perhaps but when we sell him/loan him out to Luton or someone equivalent, I guarantee he'll do a Josh King at Watford and score a hattrick in a 6-3 win at home. If we constantly kick him while he's down, he's never going to score for us again

He’s had more opportunities than any other striker at the club and failed miserably.
I just wish we had stronger managers in charge who had a bit of bottle.

Only three trophies have eluded us - this one we have come close too when we had very good teams - The European cup which we were unfairly banned out of - the Europa - This competition should return to how it started - stop the prem entering - & let the old 4h division now the National league take the prem teams places without European competition ...share the money around IMO ...

It was optional for top teams to enter, then compulsory - the first round was two legs to benefit lower teams ....

Top flight teams have always played in the League Cup and the old 4th division isn’t the National League (formerly Conference) it’s what’s League Two was

Premier League replaced the old First Division
Championship was the Second
League One the Third
League Two the Fourth
The Non Leagues haven’t changed bar name/sponsorship

But a good cup run can do wonders for confidence. It’s not like we’ve got a league championship to be distracted from but it could boost us for getting out of the bottom three and comfortably mid-table.

I am not wrong in the conception of the League cup - the old First Division never entered it as they were stronger teams a comparison with today's premiership - then they got an invitation some teams entered some did not - then it was made compulsory for the first Division teams to join it - with the 3rd round being a two legged affair to help out the lower teams gate wise - teams now who are in Europe do not enter till the next round - the rules have changed over the years from its invention of a new trophy - I was merely suggesting a rejig back to how it started ... with the National League replacing the premiership teams as they would gain extra income & be a boost for grassroots football -
It would be taking away the overload of games at the top Premiership teams who dont take interest till the semi-finals anyway e.g. selecting a strong team anyway IMO it's a mockery of a trophy now - I think back to when teams in the 1960s/70s got fined for playing weakened teams - now it's the norm ! As it's just a convenient for top teams to do this now !

Or, let's put out a full-strength side, pick up a few injuries to key players and possibly still lose, thus lowering confidence even further for a competition that has no importance to the club.

Can go either way mate. I think a win and goals is more important for morale than resting players at the start of the year but that's why neither me or you are the manager
