To be fair I actually don’t think McTominay is that bad for you, I even don’t think Fred is as bad as people say. I think the big issue is they absolutely do not work together

McTominay is not rubbish, but is not up to badge standard.
It is telling that they loaned van de Beek out, but there's still a player in there.

Yeah, that’s the thing with Fred - he’s a okay squad player, but it’s easy to forget how much they actually paid for him. I actually like McTominay though, I think he’d do well alongside a deeper playmaking type.
Van de Beek is just a bizarre situation, as he’s never been absolutely horrendous when he’s played for them, but they point blank haven’t gave him a chance

The whole thing is just weird.
Van de Beek might be the best of the lot, which is a bit like being the valedictorian of your GED class. He's also exiting possibly the most dysfunctional midfield I've seen for a 'top' club. It's incredibly hard to judge them on the merits, other than to say that Fred was a typically awful Woodward buy. Even Fred might be decent next to the right player(s), though never worth the price tag.

I’ve thought for years that United look incredibly disjointed due to the fact they seem to buy players for shirt sales as opposed to buying players who actually make sense on the pitch. Van de Beek was very good at Ajax, but it seems very weird that United just haven’t bothered to give him a chance at all

Spoke to a few Man U fans and on the whole they are crying out for him to be given a chance. As you say, he hasn't generally disappointed in the little he has played and the United fans want to see more of him. They're eager to see how he does for us.
The down side for us is that, if he does well, then United will be reluctant to sell. Especially if we recover this season and finish comfortably mid table they will probably see us a threat again for next season. At the moment we aren't.
