Dune?

It's the Dixie Dean of Science Fiction books - mere films cannot do it justice.
Books are different
A book takes the authors imagination in black and white then multiplies it by yours when you colour it in as you read
The first film was Maupey
This modern one might be a bit Haarland-ish...but it's still no Dixie
I think that last is a bit of a reach. You're never turning Dune into a two hour film. All respect to David Lynch, but that's a futile endeavor.

It can be done on screen in a satisfying way. Honestly, given the way Apple did Foundation, I'm grateful for a straight up adaptation. I would subscribe for a straight-up adaptation of Foundation or the robot novels, and watch. The adaptation of Good Omens did well, in that regard.

I know
my point was (now i think about it more) is that even though a film might in theory give a true, honest interpretation and even entertaining version of a book...the audio version is 22hrs long and a picture 'may' be worth a 1000 words
But books are gold and films are sort of only gold plated, good in their own way
Chalk and cheese.
The new film isn't bad but it misses out so much just telling the basic story

Also The Dark Tower needs to be done properly, not the recent abortion.

Having just re-read Foundation I do think a straight-up adaptation would be difficult. There’s only one (minor) female character in the book iirc.

It's solid, and a great first read. It doesn't hold up as well as the second book, which I did not like on a first read. As I have gotten older, I have appreciated the second book a lot more.

The series gets a little screwy from there, with the last one (by Frank) being the only one I really rate. The others are worth your time, but if it's a choice between them and real genre classics, I would suggest going there first.
It's worth continuing past God Emperor? I found that they just became less and less plot-driven and more philosophical treatises.

Yeah, the second Dark Tower book is fire, and the third is quite good. Deserves a better adaptation than it received.

The last one is quite good. God Emperor is decent, but questionable as a recommendation.
As I said in the 'Books' thread 'God Emperor'...and the subsequent others...was maybe a step too far and probably driven by the publishers wanting to make hay while the the sun shines rather than driven by the writers muse.*
*even literary giants like a big publishers cheque and as Asimov stated (gist) only a fool ever wrote for anything other than money.
Art for arts sake - money for Gods sake? lol

I am confused. Asimov's royalties for I, Robot and the Foundation novels were a joke. He acknowledged this.

I do not understand where you're going here.
