I am confused. Asimov's royalties for I, Robot and the Foundation novels were a joke. He acknowledged this.

I do not understand where you're going here.
It was to reinforce my point about the later books being (probably more) financially driven not artistically driven.
He sold the stories for the, back in the day, going rate, different world then...never the less that quote is basically what he said at the time...mind you, he said a lot of things.

Asimov? He more or less owned up to being absolute rubbish at the business side of things, and having Doubleday bail him out, which of course they didn't.

His wealth at the end of his life was due to his ability as a public speaker (he was insanely good at this) to command half of Reagan's appearance fee as a former POTUS. Doubleday did right by him, but who would not if publishing the fourth Foundation novel and the third Robot novel?

I think that last is a bit of a reach. You're never turning Dune into a two hour film. All respect to David Lynch, but that's a futile endeavor.

It can be done on screen in a satisfying way. Honestly, given the way Apple did Foundation, I'm grateful for a straight up adaptation. I would subscribe for a straight-up adaptation of Foundation or the robot novels, and watch. The adaptation of Good Omens did well, in that regard.
He never wanted it to be a 2 hour film...that was the studio.

For my part, I loved the original, and lamented david lynch was never able to put his vison on screen. The American version from 2000ish I didnt like, largely because of the American accents (disclaimer, I am american but was raised in Ingerland).

on the whole, I have some complaints about the newest iteration, but i like it, music especially. The second pirated cassette tape i ever owned was the toto dune soundtrack, so I may be based.

The jodorowski dune concept art has always left me longing for something more.

Toto is awesome. Saw them open for the Steve Howe version of Yes once, and they were so much better. Sign me up for any soundtrack they write.

Most people seemed to have read/watch are familiar with events of the first book. In later sequels Paul and his Fremens literally go on Jihad and genocide population of like 100 planets.

Par for the course for conquest for basically all of human history.

The original movie was very dark, but great at the same time.

Enjoyed part 1 of this, it’s got potential to be epic. We live in hope.
