I like the evolution of an Everton transfer story like this, one of them where peoples hearts sink initially and they get all shouty and sweary, then you see the stats and it sinks some more, then you watch a few clips on youtube and are still relatively underwhelmed, then you move to acceptance of Evertons position in the pecking order and convince yourself you've signed the answer to multiple problems in the squad.

The hope disappears 3 games in and you revert to your initial opinion.

Excited for those three games though

You can replace “Everton transfer story” with “life” and this still works

One thing @Eggs has written that has stuck with me and doesnt get spoken of or perhaps thought of as much as it should do is...

"Partnerships"

I felt that Gordon ahead of Mykolenko looked very promising. But Gordon kept being moved to the right so Gray etc could be used on the left.

We may see that this season with McNeil on the right cutting inside and Patterson down the line...his workrate could also benefit the youngster.

We of course wont know until we see him but aside from top end pace and being one footed...theres a lot to like.

As I wrote in the last post, if we had Myko/Gordon + Patterson/McNeil thats a lot of potential out wide.

If Dele and DCL are in and around the box then it may be quite eye opening.

The Broja links could also add firepower with those wide deliveries too.

McNeil seems to have the next move in his head already which is what gives him an extra 5 yards...

He seems to go past players or play around them with ease when he wants to and then tries to put people in.

Beyond that initial spark he'll get caught as he doesnt seem to have that top speed the likes of Gordon do.

For Burnley he seemed to switch play well also so we could see Gordon isolate full backs and a cross field McNeil pass put him in.

I'm excited.
His lack of pace is a main concern. It is one of the reason he is not scoring as much as he should.
His game is very limited if crossing is his only legit threat. His shooting is average his dribbling is average. I’m not sure why you are excited.

He is the same level as ghazi and Townsend. Only good at one or two skill set and very average overall.

I dont see the point of signing this guy at all, rarely scores, rarely assists ( i know, he scored a worldy here in lockdown) I am happy to be proved wrong, but it doesnt seem like the player we need. I could understand the Cornet links and Dennis, because they both play off the wing or central and got good figures for goals and assists.

He seems a bit "Aiden McGeady" to me.

5+ assists in his 3 senior seasons before this last one. Hopefully people get on the end of his decent balls in. If Patterson plays can see him storming in on the end of some.
It's really not good reading McNeil's stats, however in his defence he was playing with Chris Wood, absolutely donkey who couldn't even bag regular for Newcastle during their good run of last season

Or a poor man's Stewart Downing. A terrible signing. Horrific.

His initial acceleration is quick...he knows what hes going to do as hes receiving ths ball...has good awareness and plays with his head up.

His dribbling is not average...its very very good...hes like McManaman was for the RS with the close control.

One footed + not a high top speed id say are the weaknessss.

Shooting we'll see...he wasnt getting in the box for Burnley so mostly long shots i think.

Only 22 and lots of upside.

I’ve not really noticed him to be honest. So whilst it’s totally underwhelming on one hand I have to accept I don’t know much about him.
Good luck to the kid.
