Confirmed Signing Dwight McNeil

In what world is McNeil an improvement on Richarlison? If you can't see how unambitious this is and what an incredible downgrade on the player that kept us up this is then there is no point.
Nobody said he was did they? Its quite possible that McNeil is in no way a replacement for Richarlison, one of them is an attacker the other is a midfielder. Vault me if McNeil is up top with DCL against Chelsea

He's obviously not as good as Richarlison but we bought Richarlison at a similar age for far more and sold for meagre profit.
We should be buying players like mcneil and actually coaching and developing them. Then maybe in 2 or 3 years mcneil is worth 50m. Hopefully at that stage we have a competent board and can actually hold on to the players we want to keep.
I fully agree, but we tend to take young prospects and turn them into utter dog doo, for some reason we’re not very good at nurturing youngsters.

Listened to the vastly varying opinions of him on here and do seem to get the impression that not many players are good enough for us despite our lowly position as a PL team. I offer my opinion that Dwight McNeil being a player that can win a ball back, protect the ball and create time and space would be a bargain at £15m -£20m. He would be the type of player that could hold the ball up and get other players into play and raise our possession stats substantially. Add crosses into the mix if DCL is up for it and we could see much needed points added to any tally we get. Thumbs up from me
If we’d signed Messi in his prime there’d be people whinging.

If signing this player is a marker for our transfer activity then I am seriously concerned as a fan that we have gone into full on relegation battler team mindset which as history proves, means it's a matter of time circling the drain. His stats were terrible last season for goals and assists, two things we are devoid of in the squad , let alone the team. Burnley were only slightly worse than we were so we can make a direct comparison between us both and McNeill is another relegated part of a poor team we are bringing In thinking it will improve us.

I understand the financial issue we have and I understand that our recent history is not going to be attractive to any player that we should really be signing. Players like this though are reasons why we are struggling so much and dropping down the table each season and struggling to even hold our ground in the league like several promoted teams have achieved so far. Our scouts currently bringing in two Burnley players and a young full back that the dof knew is quite shocking in terms of how the club is set up because we are seemingly not scouting at all each year and the pool is getting smaller from relegated teams to now dropping the s.

I understand us fans want to be optimistic but McNeill , vinegre , these aren't players that improve us. They don't add goals or assists or add a presence on the pitch. We should all be deeply worried about our transfer activity because this is looking like we are going to be no better off this season as we were last time. Especially considering rondon is more than likely going to be an important player for us.
Exactly it's an absolute shambles this transfer window.

Who are we going to replace a £55m player with for under £20m who’s going to be a direct replacement for him? Not really happening is it?

Literally the exact same situation as 3 years ago when we signed Vlasic because he played well against us. Board never learn and evolve. Club is a disaster.

Vlasic was/is a decent player and was never given much of a chance.
Plus we made a profit on him, crap example

Ok. First, I personally think Dwight McNeil is not a good signing and have many signs of Everton signing players who need rejuvenation.

Second, consider this - I don't think McNeil is first choice. I think first choice is Maxwell Cornet and Terrier second but something happen during negotiation, either deal structure could not be agreed or agent fees too high, etc. or the player was going to reject us (which I actually think Cornet is going to snub us).

So, the club went with someone scouted for 2 seasons. Not the best signing, but I think it's a before-PL-start panic buy. And I think we should've been quicker with Cornet case before so many clubs joined in the race.
