I think him and Patterson on the right could potentially be molded into a very good combo. We've already seen how good Patterson's wing-back play can be, including his overlapping & crossing. McNeil ahead of him then gives us an option to cut inside from the right and utilise his strong left foot for either shooting or switching the play over to the left.

I genuinely wonder if Lampard has this in mind. If it works then we've potentially got the right-hand side sorted for the next few years.

Yes i agree and according to some Mcneil is a defensively sound winger.

I think Gordon is a shoe in.

I was going to say about Gray being very selfish 2nd half of the season and it looking so predictable down the left when he played.

So many times Mykolenko was unmarked able to put a cross over and Gray elected to cut inside and either shoot wide or dribble into defenders.

I wondered how many goals/assists he got 2nd half of the season, it was 2 assists:


In a similar vein to Cornet and Dennis who flopped 2nd half of the season Gray may have been 'found out' or just reverted to type.

McNeil is going to surprise people. He does have weaknesses which are:

Very left footed -- so wont reach the very top as hss so one footed.

Shoots too far out -- Perhaps due to his role at Burnley? With us he may be closer to the opposition net though.

Lack of pace -- good dribbling and acceleration but not quick after the first 5-10 yards

The kid is 22 though and if he can get to 12-15 league goals/assists combined (Gordon too) then I think we'll all be very happy.

I think hes got a better chance of doing that than Gray.

I think they mainly went for a 4-5-1 under Dyche and McNeil would tend to switch sides fairly often, although he was mainly played off the left. Because they didn't play with out-and-out wing backs they relied on McNeil to fire balls over to Wood etc. from the left. That wouldn't necessarily always be the case here, hence why I think/hope that he's used on the right for us.

If he's very left footed like Sheedy I'll take that.

This is single handedly the biggest fault with Gray.

Great being used for outlet for his pace in a counter attack, awful at progressive play to get the ball in the box and find the overlap. The amount of times he ignored people in better positions to cut inside and have a Hollywood shot was ludicrous.

Honestly, when you out of the gate claims people are obsessed with pace because they think a player is slow it doesnt in any way come off as a ‘rational, open minded reaction’ and gives the impression of the most pee stained undies in the realm. ;)

Anyway, if we sign him, im sure we both hope he does well for us and will support him. If he comes, im hoping your view of the player is closer to factual than mine and i would love to eat my words.
 

Looks like its done now so is up to him to step up his game another level. Is not who i would have went for but is here now is up to him hope we get see more players come in

Yes Zat, I think it goes without saying that we'll all be very happy if he can improve his goal/assist tally by 15 (FIFTEEN) times from last season.
