Confirmed Signing Dwight McNeil

Not a body language expert, but look at this clip. Lampard asks him if he is happy and he immediately folds his arms and looks defensive.. Seems he isn't really that happy to me. Perhaps we shafted him in the negotiations, or perhaps I am reading too much into it? He's a good player though...

If he and his agent came in expecting the same 5 year, 80-100k a week deal with a massive signing on fee we’ve offered in previous years then I’m pleased he’s a little disappointed.

The reality is that we (or people working for us) will have spoken to his agent long before we made contact with Burnley. Technically illegal I know, but every club does it.

We’ll have been well aware of the wages/length of contract he wanted before the last 24 hours. Whatever McNeil is on a week, I’m sure he won’t starve. In 5 years time he’ll never have to work another day in his life. He might already be financially set up.

Im pleasantly optimistic about this one. Not watched a great deal of him, but I think he’ll do well in a more attacking set up.

As for the body language. Maybe he folded his arms because he wants to look strong, focussed and serious! Determined to bag loads of goals and assists for the famous blues from Merseyside

7 goals from 133 appearances does concern me like. I know Burnley are a low scoring team (last two seasons 34 and 33 goals scored), and they're whole team will need to be behind the ball for most games, but an attacking player should get a little more than that.

I think I'm more concerned about pace. Because if Everton go for people like Gilmour or Winks before the window closes we could be struggling for it.

I'm just about in favour of him, mostly due to his age, wealth of experience and willingness to track back.

Winks is not slow by CM standards. Gordon and DCL are both quick so we would not be devoid of pace

Hardly Lennonesque

….I suspect the 5 year contract will be the players personal demand that we have agreed to meet. As you suggest, that is some level of security on a very reasonable salary.

Don't really get that feeling here to be honest mate, at least not as a general consenus.

I think it's pretty split. Here are some views from there.

As for McNeil's record. Seven goals in 130 odd appearances isn't great for an attacking player and I thought he was dreadful last season. It'll be interesting to see if he improves with this move. Good luck to him!

As for Dwight, will miss him - he needs a fresh start, he looked in a rut in the past year or two. I think we've done very well to get £20m for him, very well.

Absolutely no surprise he's gone, and for decent money too, all things considered. The only surprise is that people are surprised.

Frustrating player. Could be excellent and exciting but those moments became less often.

Everton are buying potential. Sure, he has a good amount of PL appearances but partly down to us having had sod all else during his time here.

Difficult to predict if this could be a good move for him and Everton.

I really don’t rate him - think he was a very limited player and after a purple patch showed what that he’s limited.

Very good fee and will be happy (if) the fee is reinvested into the playing XI

Another great bit of business- no way is he a 20million player despite his age !!!

Also, if Dwight found the Turf Moor criticism tough (and he pretty obviously did) then Goodison Park will eat him alive.

Good money for him, what would he have been worth in 12 months if his average form had continued? How do we know he’d rip up the championship?

It’s potentially 20m for a player that’s scored and assisted very few recently, huge gamble for Everton, and for what it’s worth I really hope he does have a great 5 years at Everton, he’s done really well for us on the whole

I think this move will be a fail for Dwight and Everton, but I do wish him all the best. Hope he shows some of that 'brief' form he showed in the early days.

I do think Dwight is over-rated alot by Claret tinted eyes, but that's no surprise.. anything he does will be seen 10x better by some as he came through our ranks.

I think Dwight is a decent player but not amazing, £20 million after last seasons performances is very good business for us. Everton like to throw big money around on players and hope it works.

I remember when they signed Gylfi Sigurdsson, so many pundits said he was no where near worth the amount Everton paid for him.. Swansea fans were laughing. I think he was eventually let go when his contract finally expired, Everton fans wanted to see the back of him long before that.

He got some very poor marks on players ratings,as did a lot of players, one trick pony mentioned quite a bit.

I would never criticise a player wanting to move on, except wegthrop or whatever he's called. DN is a good player but far to many times he went missing in games. If it wasn't going his way, he would throw his arms around like a petulant child

Dwight was a revelation in his 1st season, and he dragged us out of trouble virtually on his own.

But despite glimpses of ability since, that splendid strike at Goodison especially, he's flattered to deceive far too often for my liking.

Fantastic deal for us, we’ve had Everton’s pants down.

I predict he’ll be sold to a Championship club for a few million in 2 or 3 years time.

Will never be a regular starter but even if he is by some weird circumstances Everton will be relegated just as we were. A player who had an unbelievable 6 months and has been pretty poor ever since.
One foot no pace little guile no composure poor decisions. Very happy to see the back of him

Irrelevant. His market value will have decreased significantly over the past couple of seasons. He's been the most frustrating player to watch during that period.

Just looked nervous to me and didn’t know where to put his hands but I’m no body language expert ?‍♂️

Some quotes from Burnley supporters

Come on now, Jake. Be fair.

Absolutely gutted, loved watching him play.

I think the great majority will wish him well. He brought some real excitement to our team. I hope last year was just a blip, but will be watching him and hoping he will maximise his undoubted potential, despite it being with Everton

So disappointed to see him leave. I thought we’d manage to keep hold of him this season and I think he’d have been back to his brilliant self. I wish him well and I hope the Evertonians are kind to him.

All about the quality of the replacement now. It’ll be a miracle if we get anyone as good as him.

Absolutely gutted, one of my favourite ever players. Very special talent and I'm sure Everton isn't the high point for him.

Good luck Dwight.

Very sorry to see you go.

A great talent I look forward to seeing you play for England.

Massive shame but far too good a player to be playing in the Championship.

Wish him well.

How any Burnley fan cannot rate Dwight or wish him good luck in my eyes are classless human beings

A great player handcuffed by the way he was asked to play under dyche. Would have flourished this season under VK, but no surprise to see him leave and wish him well.

Pivotal we replace him.

I didn't even get to the end of the first page I posted.

Sure, there were some disparaging remarks but this is the theme.

Seems fairly evenly split to me.

Most of the ones sad to see him go are because they thought he could do a job in the championship and they all seem to agree he has been poor for 18 months.

The fact a lot of them are saying he can't handle pressure from the support is going to bode well.

Matter of opinion I guess mate, not how I read it but I'm not going to go aggro over it.

We'll see and I know we both want him to smash it.

Unless you want to slag off the fact he has no pace, I'm totally on board with that like.
