2022/23 Dwight McNeil

He has shown he has a skill set we don’t have. He has close control and can progress the ball.

I was savaged for supporting him after seeing him score two good goals in the friendly game. Well he has now shown similar skills in a PL game.

Right now, it is difficult to say what sort of player he will become. He is still only 22, and he has come from a very defensive team. You can see that in his statistics, because he doesn’t have a lot of pressing and tackling. His close control is great and with encouragement from the current coaches, he may start to show a lot more of that. Way too early to judge.

His best spot now is probably as an impact sub. I'm not really sure what he is tbh, he doesn't have the pace for a winger but can clearly dribble and cross the ball. He could play in the middle in behind as a sort of second striker, I'm not sure tbh.

McNeil did everything right, but he was helped by Palace doing absolutely nothing. It was a great goal, but Id be pretty pissed off about how much space hes given if I was a palace supporter.

Yep. That is exactly what I was trying to say. A beautiful team goal that really only happens because his marker got turned like an amateur and nobody even attempted to cover that mistake.

I would be furious if we gave up the same goal.

He left 2 players in his wake with good skills then the work and movement of Maupay took Andersen away to open more space and he exploited it. More movement from Iwobi had there defence at sixes and sevens. Good team goal that needed more than just skills from McNeil.

Give him credit for being able to exploit the opportunity. That's the key, many players wouldn't have Been able to.
If you could mould him and Gray you would have a top player. What liked about the goal was everything the run the timing of the ball and the weight of pass and following through and putting it in the net. The one thing he has got which I think Gray lacks a little is weight of pass and football intelligence.

I think we can all agree that Gray would have took a shot

Capitalizing on the other sides bad defending is literally the job description

This is why we can’t have nice things

It’s hard to remember he’s that young if only because he’s a little wierd looking

Yeah, I like Gray, I think he's a pain in the arse for opponents and can make things happen... on his day. Classic erratic winger. Question is if he'll ever gain that bit of composure. It's what he's missing.

O'Neil maybe could end up in an advanced midfield position. Think he's got football intelligence but not Grays explosiveness.

Edit: dangerous ground this, loads said similar about Bilyetdinov. Think O'Neil probably has more physicality.
