Demari Gray doesn’t cut in and exploit that open space. He stops the ball dead, does a couple of stepovers before beating his man on the outside having already given their defence plenty of time to get set for the cross.

Gray does absolutely fine at dribbling into space where he kills the move is when he has to decide what to do in the space

His defensive stats are very good though too.

He doesn’t give us a counter attacking threat though which is the concern

No he doesn’t, but there are others for that, Gray etc. He is different to some of our other players which is good. We need options to be able to play in different ways.

McNeill strikes me as the sort of player who could be good on free kicks.

Early days but potentially very much like what we had with Pienaar. Not pacy but tricky, good work ethic and knows the importance of a partnership with the full back.

A good analogy. Those partnerships take time to form, but he is tricky and carries the ball well.

It’s early days and no one should be writing him off. He has two goals and has been a bit part player.

Can’t say I see much of Pienaar in him personally.
I see similarities to Kilbane. Works hard, puts a shift in but isn’t going to provide tons of top quality moments on a consistent basis.

Yeah, I like Gray, I think he's a pain in the arse for opponents and can make things happen... on his day. Classic erratic winger. Question is if he'll ever gain that bit of composure. It's what he's missing.

O'Neil maybe could end up in an advanced midfield position. Think he's got football intelligence but not Grays explosiveness.


Edit: dangerous ground this, loads said similar about Bilyetdinov. Think O'Neil probably has more physicality.
