….even in the 70s, as a CF I would sometimes wear no3. Teammates laughed but if I was playing against somebody like Harry Bennet (played one game for the Toffees and a real character) it was a badge of honour for him to leave something on the no9. We shared a joke about it and he still kicked me all over the pitch but I felt it helped
