2024/25 Dwight McNeil

He hasn't really got the pace to play out wide properly though. He is a strange player, he has something about him but he is very one footed and not the quickest and seems better shooting from further out, I'm not sure he is a wide player or a no.10 tbh his skillset is an unusual one.
This is his output from the left last season. He has his weaknesses of course, but I don’t look at this and think ‘we desperately need to replace McNeil’.

When we were playing a very direct Dyche style and he was taking all corners and freekicks. Look he can be useful and if he performs cool, he has a place in the squad and team at times. But we need better all over the team

Fair enough. Personally I’d be happy with a solid left side of Myko and McNeil IF we had an entirely new right side with an attacking right back and a pacy right sided forward. Of course that’s a big if, but still!

I think if we are being realistic about the rebuilding of the squad then we are not selling McNeil.

At absolute worst he is an extremely useful player to have in the squad to come on late in games and be able to utilise space created by tired players. We know he has a good pass, cross, etc. on him and when given a bit of space could be extremely effective next season.

Other priorities first and then see if we can improve on McNeil next Summer, if he doesn't become a shining light in a Moyes team, which given the way he plays is always a possibility.

Well he’s just not is he? The ‘big six’ certainly aren’t buying him. He wouldn’t get in the Villa or Newcastle team. Wouldn’t get in ahead of Mitoma at Brighton, or Hudson-Odoi at Forest. Probably wouldn’t get in ahead of Iwobi at Fulham, or in Brentford’s front 3.

He’s alright but he’s a lower mid table Prem player.

Ah, so you mean in terms of actually starting. I think he'd be good enough to be in all of their squads at least, same as ours.
