Dyche and Thelwell

You get rid of everybody in a decision making capacity in the club from the old regime and you also punt any player who isn’t adaptable from the old regime too. To encourage change you need to make changes

…I’m onboard with that view but if we stay up this season, we also need to stay up next season. The transition of players won’t be instant even if we ditch Dyche and Thelwell.

Dyche = Harry Basset. Luckiest man in football. Get rid now! Today!

Thelwell : It’s impossible to say without being inside the club & knowing exactly what he is or isn’t doing.
We know Moshiri has a track record of employing people, then meddling in their duties. We don’t know how much the manager has to do with signings. Steve Walsh came in on the back for unearthing Kante & Marez, did he sign Sigurdsen, Williams, Klaasen, Bolasie, Keane? I doubt it, more likely Koeman? Did he sign Rooney or was that Kenwight? Only those in the know can really evaluate his contribution.
The signings under his watch are a real mixed bag. I’d say Ndiaye, Iroegbunam, Mangala look like good signings.
Handing extensions to Coleman, Young & Harrison just appalling, lazy, waste of money.
I sincerely hope the new owners have a handle on exactly what’s gone on & hire the right people to sort it out.

Having someone who can do a proper pre season will be a key factor in things. We have to align the DoF role with whoever is manager/coach this time round, whether that's Thewell or someone else they have to be at the head of choosing the individual they are going to be working with. We have to try and blend things together much better than the mish mash of recent years, and this is going to be the time to do it imo.

There’s a lot of change coming next summer. These players as it stands are all out of contract; Keane, Coleman, Young, Doucoure, Gana, Mangala, Harrison, Lindstrom, Calvert-Lewin.
We can argue about the merits of those individuals, but that’s half of our first 11, and 2 of the subs who came on at the weekend, all due to leave.
This gives us lots of opportunities- but it also a hell of a lot of work to do in one summer. I just can’t see it’s feasible to leave everything until the end of the season, let Dyche leave and then start planning for next season. There’s too much work to do for it to be well managed between May and the start of next season.
In light of this I wonder if Thelwell will be given a contract extension to start the planning for next season so a new manager can hit the ground running.

I actually do like a lot of the work Thelwell has done behind the scenes. He's had some stinkers on transfers but not as damaging as Brands was. I'd like to see what he could do when he's not dealing with the circus above him whilst handcuffed to FFP. Dyche, not so much.

Agree. His role is far broader than transfers - but that is obviously a key performance indicator. If the scouting structure he inherited was rubbish it was always going to take time and ultimately he needs to full backing and trust of those above him.

I hope the new owners give him that and a chance.

This is an interesting point. I was actually pretty hopeful this season, that after making a good few signings early in the window for a change, that we'd be able to hit the ground running, particularly as we had some favourable early fixtures. Unfortunately, I forgot that Sean Dyche views the entirety of August as pre-season for some reason and we were as awful as ever, maybe even worse than normal, at the start of the season.
