ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 2

Liverpool thought they had a team of good youngsters plus a few old PL hands like Tadic and Blind to deal with. Now they know they have a team that can beat them; a team that keep going like they do; a team that's very good at winning cup competitions like they are; a team with a strike force like they have; a team with a dominant CD unit and attacking FBs like they have; a team with a top GK like they have...and a team, dare I say it, who are superior to them in the middle of the park.

Game very much on lads.

...oh, and a better manager than they have.

A team they’ve won 9 of the last 15 encounters against

The Spurs line up against City first leg will give Liverpool a lot of problems. Llorente (who has ignited Spurs' CL season) off the bench early if it's not working. In fact, there might be a case for starting him.
  • Lloris
  • Trippier
  • Alderweireld
  • Vertonghen
  • Rose
  • Sissoko
  • Winks
  • Eriksen
  • Alli
  • Son Heung-Min
  • Kane

Can we have Gazza, Hoddle, Waddle, Lineker and Klinsman back ?

I wouldn't say their comeback was anywhere near as good as Spurs. Barca gave them the game, the stupid heading the ball back, when there was nobody near him. That fool Dembele deciding to hit it right at the keep in the 94th minute. Also messing about when they were put through at 1-0 in the first half. Suarez's ridiculous chance in the 2nd half, just before the goal was ludicrous. Barca were just arrogant and lazy, everything I hate about Spanish football and us under Martinez. I don't what to think about the Brighton v City game, common sense would tell you Brighton have nothing to play for and City are a top quality side who will destroy the, but this is the RS we're talking about.

To give more detail, Liverpool have a big issue with being favourites and in finals. They shrivel. However the same is true on Spurs, who look absolutely shattered this season.

The fact Liverpool have defeated them a few times will help, and will also normalise this game not as a final but just another Spurs match.

I can't see a Spurs win. They do badly as underdogs too. Awful against the top 6 and have bottled many games against Liverpool too.

It's Liverpools to lose I'm afraid.

Nuts that they've managed to avoid PSG, Ajax, Madrid (x 2) & Juventus who all knock them out. If you keep getting lucky runs where you play your Porto's, your over the hill Bayerns, your Roma's etc and avoiding the top teams you will eventually get lucky and win something.
The more I watch Liverpool, the more I think that they're a bully who just needs to be stood up to. They obviously have three excellent players in attack, and I think there's a lot to be said for the fact that they don't play high-risk passes 10 yards in front of their own box, but what really sets them apart is their pace and aggression. The Barcelona players were mentally broken by Liverpool's physicality last night, and looked genuinely frightened of snarling gimps like Milner, Henderson and Robertson. It was bizarre to watch.

Unfortunately, like you, I don't think that Tottenham are the ones to do it.

Of absolute no relevance in a one off match like this. Most of those encounters were one goal in it. Spurs have been a better team than Liverpool in 4 of the last 5 seasons. It is absolutely on a knife edge.

I hope the match is billed in the media correctly. A team that has spent zero in the last two transfer windows with a squad comprised of bargain signings and youth players against a corporation that has ploughed more money into their first team over the last 18 months than any team in the history of the game and have a squad of players with world record fees and huge money signings in almost every position.

Paupers v financial dopers.

If a team negates their physicality and makes it about football they can be handled quite easily. Sadly too many teams struggle to deal with players bought specifically to run fast and hard.
