ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 2

I didn't worry when they were 6 points ahead with 3 games to go in 2014.

I don't think their lead was that extreme, or if it was it was when Man City had games in hand.

They fluked one major trophy in the last 30 years.

This is the one big proof that the kopites infest media with total undeserved bias. It's filthy that they have so many pundits on so many channels that we even have to endure RS commentating on Everton games. They're not even in the biggest 4 clubs in the land: Chelsea, Arsenal, City & Utd all have more pedigree since the Prem came into being and thus deserve more presence in punditry boxes.

If I remember they were 6 points ahead but City had a game in hand. Their loss at home to Chelsea basically made it all square (potentially) but City had a superior goal difference which is why they, the RS, went for it at Palace. Although Crystanbul was highly amusing it didn't really matter that much since City won their last 4 games.

They've done nothing for decades. They maintained their public profile by exploiting a series of football disasters.

controversial...i wonder if this view is taken seriously outside of blue forums.

Controversial or not, they have. Flogging gear with references to Hillsborough? What would that be? Many of their fans jumping on everything as "an insult" to Hillsborough to shut down legitimate criticism. If that's not explitation I dont know what is.

They are known at least as much for a stadium disaster these days....in this country....two stadium disasters elsewhere. That's not being disrespectful to those who died btw, it's the very opposite of that.

They're not, tho'. I've had many conversations with european & worldly football fans over the years. Heysel & Hillsborough aren't significant events unless you're English or Italian. Liverpool FC are a massive name across Europe for at least 6 chief reasons ranking well above stadium disasters:

- they share the city name which birthed The Beatles.
- that run of European Cups in the late-70's/early-80's.
- insidious marketing strategies which keep ex-players in punditry positions all over the world.
- many in the sports press are pro-red.
- their team regularly qualifying for Champs League.
- them having a genuinely world-class goalscorer every couple of seasons (Torres, Suarez, Salah etc).

It's taken deadly seriously by me. The whole thing about never shutting up about it for the last quarter of a century has nothing to do with honouring those who died, nor even particularly in getting 'justice'. It's been about gathering a vast impenetrable wall of sympathy around them and reinforcing their 'victims' stance.

Most teams would have quietly and with dignity let things rest, but not them. And that isn't disrespecting the victims either, far from it. We as a club have respected the tragedy with quiet sensitivity from the word go. Others, very sadly, have not chosen to do that.

And don't for one solitary moment believe any of the Stalinist revisionism of history that they didn't sing Munich songs before Hillsborough happened. They were constant and disgusting. They stopped as soon as they feared someone might treat them in the same reprehensible way. Hypocrites, plain and simple. Always have been, always will be.

They won 10 of the first 12 under Benitez in 08/09 including beating Mourinho’s Chelsea away at Stamford Bridge to end their unbeaten home record. They still didn’t win it. They won 13 in a row under Rodgers hammering Arsenal and United and beating City, still didn’t win it. They’ve won 6 games in the league which has included one game against arguably the weakest of the top 6 this season who were utterly ot of form (and still could have snatched a point). They haven’t pulled away from City or Chelsea yet. Bit early for anyone to be giving them the title. So they’re a good side. They should be after throwing 100s of millions at Klopp and giving him 3 seasons of winning nothing to buy a team to have a crack at it. I don’t know why it’s treated like a miracle that he has them in the top 4.
Fair play, you're well red up on LFC

Sorry I’m going to have to disagree with you . They didn’t shut up about Hillsborough because of lies and a blatant coverups that went through successive governments both Tory and labour , With any politician seeking to support those looking for justice to keep their heads down . They didn’t shut up because lies were repeatedly told about those that had died and they didn’t shut up because if they didn’t they we’d never be where we are today . The lies went so deep even now after apologies and charges some people still believe them.

In my opinion Those that wouldn’t shut up and encouraged others not to shut up deserve nothing but our respect .

I will agree and I’ve said before that the use of JF96 as punctuation alongside YNWA for me isn’t particularly appropriate or respectful and I’ll again agree that the Munich singing has always gone on and on occasion we’ve seen it still does , if you want to respect a tragedy and have it respected then be respectful full stop. I also dislike the echo hijacking the shun the sun when it clearly suits their owners , their continuous running of stories about it both panders to their owners and Liverpool fans and it’s all a bit obvious to honest .

As for the justice campaign it’s one of the most incredible things I’ve seen and they should be immensely proud of their achievements.
