ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

Matip is one of the slowest centre backs I've seen. Hes an elegant player on the ball, reads the game well and decent in the air but hes not quick at all.

He will be injured again soon though.
Deceptive pace from a tall player, reminds me of Yaya Toure, he looked slow but he was like a train when he got going over long distance on a pitch, same with Zlatan.

Yes that's a fair clarification. Even then though, I dont think hes quick but more of a powerful runner. He does sort of run down blind alleys a bit though.

His strength to me is positioning. Gomes is much quicker than him but his positioning is woeful. In the end those who understand the basics of defending will outdo poor defenders who have speed.

Hello there to all you rawk lurkers. Benitez is doing a great job for us. He is a very valued and cherished member of our Everton family.;)

And the thing is, hes fully embraced it hasnt he? Happily drives a blue car, talks about coming home when he got here, seems very happy and relaxed here. It's almost like he resents Liverpool and their fickle supporters are all the abuse they gave him at the back end of his spell, where they drove him out.

Coverage of them in MNF was sickening. Why other teams gets 20 minutes talking about their right back after a game that had nothing to do with them. Calling him Beckham and De Bruyne rolled into one. F me, Sky must be getting paid well to keep pumping this drivel out.

That's why Neville is a failure of a manager and Carragher will never get a job as a coach, never mind a manager anywhere, while Gareth Southgate is the countries most decorated international coach in 50 years.

I think you could actually make a case that if you did a combined 11 we might actually have 6 players in it.
CB Godfrey
LB Digne
CM Doucoure
CM Gomes
ST Calvert-Lewin
LW Gray
I know some of these could be argued and that's based on both teams playing 4-3-3. I think Allan is better than Gomes but he is competing with Fabinho whereas Gomes is competing with Henderson. On current form they could argue Robertson is edging Digne but we could say the same about Pickford over Allison. If we can keep players fit it might be us that knocks them out the top 4.

Gomes doesn’t even get in out 11 let alone a combined 11. Digne has been poor for a while now.

In my opinion the only positions are Godfrey at CB. Allan in CM and Calvert Lewin as striker. That would be different if James was fit in form and playing but I can’t see that.

If we played a 4-3-3 with 3 CM who would be your 3rd I have Allan and Doucoure nailed on but Allan as the most defensive. Then it's between Gbamin and Gomes for me and I haven't seen enough of Gbamin yet.

Robertson was also poor for big chunks of last season. Its all subjective but that's just my take.

Would you not pick either Gray or Richarlison for that matter over a bang out of form Mane.

In a midfield 3 the two standout players for me are Fabinho holding then Allan as one for he two. I can’t make a claim for Docuoure being better than Henderson when he’s been so inconsistent since he arrived. If he can put it together for a whole season then maybe but sometimes he looks like he can’t trap a ball and just disappears from games for ages.

Robertson without drugs is neither here nor there but when he’s doped up like he is now he’s like a whippet and seeing as Digne has lost his head recently it would have to be Robertson but a close one. Digne in decent form against a non juiced Robertson isn’t close though.

It’s close on the wide left forward. If Gray has a good season then maybe but he’s had four games. Richarlison still needs to do more for me. Why can’t he be a player who scores 20 goals? Instead he seems to be getting worse. Mane isn’t the player he was but he’d be walking into this team now.

I think our midfield disagreements come from who we have compering against who. I have.
Allan v Fabinho
Gomes v Henderson
Doucoure v Thiago
I think the fact we are debating so many shows we have closed the gap. Also TAA has been poor for long chunks of the last year so if we had actually brought someone in we might even be able to argue that one. Let's put it this way only VvD and Salah are absolute guarantees for them. This is also playing in their preferred formation. If we went 4-4-2 would Salah be so effective knowing he was having to track back more and stay wider. They haven't played a genuine 2 in CM for years whereas I'm confident Allan and Doucoure would be able to.

Interesting that Southgate doesnt play the best right back in the world at RB. To me he is a pretty good winger but lacks the burst of speed top class wingers have. He could probably move into Henderson role in a year or two.

One thing he is not is a good full back. McNeil had him all over the shop a few weeks ago.
