ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

Naturally I hope you are right, but I think it may be a bit early to write them off if City win tomorrow! :)

I always see 7 points as being a significant lead. Once a team gets more than two full wins ahead, it more-often-than-not is unassailable.

They were poor today. I reckon it's a matter of time before they bin Firmino off for Nunez. But I see midfield as being their true achilles heel. A three of Thiago-Fabinho-Henderson is the real reason they didn't win the league last season, especially when you consider the opposition has Rodri-Bernardo-De Bruyne and Gundogan as first change.
The defence is the unit to watch: Van Dijk peaked at Southampton and the first season he had at Liverpool. Since then it's been down hill...and he'll continue to deteriorate. Trent Whatever is quite easily one of the worst defenders in any elite team. He'll cost them time and time again. Joe Gomez is their Holgate. Konate is crocked for months in all likelihood. Matip is bang average. Robertson - even if he is a rat faced little fried banana eating snide - is, for me, comfortably the best player they have in the back four. Much more balanced in attack-defence than the idiot on the other flank.

They need to bin that defence and start again.

Nunez: doesn't score IMO. That was an OG. His flick wasn't going to trouble the GK until the Fulham defender got a touch.

And the *assist* = big clumsy lad who cant control the ball, let's it bounce off his ankles and it could have gone anywhere.

There is virtually nothing but a stolen point that lot come out of their game with.
If you watch it again you'll see that Andy Carroll missed the flick, it then hit the defender and then bounced onto Carroll. It was his goal because he got the final touch even though he didn't mean it.

Bearing in mind how far away from the Mersey their shed is, can they really be referred to as a Merseyside club? @davek
I feel that, on balance, yes they can...but only by virtue of the fact of their proximity to that great River Mersey tributary: the River Alt.

lol

I stand corrected.

Bottom line: for both the goal and the assist he was utterly 'kin cluless about it all.

I loved the way you could not just be complimentary to Robertson without digging him out :) What I am wondering is if the core has just got old together given the intensity of their schedule and style of play last 5 years. Matip, VVD, Henderson, Thiago, Salah all the wrong side of 30. Henderson and VVD have definitely declined. Lots of calls for Thiago or Henderson to be replaced by the powderpuff Elliot.

Nunez is an interesting one. He is clearly going to score a lot of goals but will his lack of ability to link the play be at the overall detriment to the team

Nunez is going to be VERY easy to handle in actuality. His first touch is terrible. You cant coach that at this level. He looks clumsy and just heads to the penalty area to make a nuisance of himself...which he will with the quality of delivery from Trent Whatever out wide, but only until PL defenders know how to deal with his presence there.

Van Dijk was finished last season, never mind this. The utter bollocks still being spoken about him as a world best in his position is laughable...utterly laughable. A big lumbering unit on the ground like Mitrovic is turning him inside out in his own 18 yard box now. Henderson is mediocrity personified and getting on. Thiago is finished. Hamstrings go in a warm season introduction game...imagine him in the cold weather? No chance. He's a bit part player there. And yes, you're completely right: Elliott is nowhere near top drawer.

They have Salah going for them. That's about it. I said when they sold Mane they were finished for the coming season. He set their tempo and got loads of goals. He was more important than even Salah.

They wont go away and they'll win a lot of games, but they wont challenge any City team that reproduces even 90% of what they've done in recent years.

Think Salah might go off the boil Alexai Sanchez style next season.

The lad Carvalho is a good player though. Was disappointed he opted to go there. Would have been a regular starter for Fulham this season and then could have left at the end of it and given Fulham a fair fee. I suspect that result was sweet for them
