ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

Popped over to RAWK to see what they made of that City game. Unsurprisingly, they are apoplectic with rage about the fact that Fulham upped their game while West Ham rolled over. Conveniently ignoring the fact that West Ham were prevented from getting into the game at all by City's sheer dominance. This is in marked contrast to the way they handed the initiative to Fulham, though they are 'certain' that Fulham will not play like that against 'any other team' this season.

No other fans could ever claim that they were cheated by their opponents having the sheer effrontery to try hard and play well...

You really couldn't make it up.

It's all a bit tin foil hat really. What incentive do West Ham (who let's not forget opened the door for Liverpool last season by getting a result with City) have for rolling over? Every team looks after themselves, and try to do the best for themselves.

It'll be hard to do anything with that Liverpool midfield, it's a real midden for them. They really should have been signing two players there. Henderson should have been shown the door and Rice brought in. He's box to box and they miss that.

The midfield situation is a bit of a mess for them. That's not to say they are all rubbish or anything like that, but it looks a bit unbalanced to me.

Their first choice 3 are at or about 30 and in some cases older than that. All 3 have started to become a bit injury prone. As a back up, you have Milner who must be well into his 30s now, and Chamberlain who is now very injury prone and approaching 30.

At the other end of the spectrum you have 2 young lads who have only really done it in the championship thus far. They may go onto be very good players, but probably need a bit of a run.

I've always liked Curtis Jones and maybe he should get a run to see if he can make the position his own. Keita is probably the only one who is in the age range you're ideally looking for, and again he is very injury prone.

So theyve got a lot of numbers, with question marks over most. This is relative of course, and it's in relation to Manchester City who are almost perfect. You just wonder if Klopp has shown a bit too much loyalty to players in not refreshing a little earlier.

On tbe opening day though, Fulham went with a midfield 2, and won the midfield battle.

The definition of entitlement right there. How dare the opposition not come and shake hands at the start of the match conceding that they will never be good enough to match the mighty Liverpool.

Every captain/manager should now come out with a statement and say that together they have decided that Liverpool are just too good and too special to even consider gracing the same pitch as them, it is a humbling experience to be pitted against such greatness and as such they will all fall on their swords and they will automatically forfeit the game and award Liverpool the 3 points.

Their midfield is poor not just in relation to City's...a team none of them would get a start for; they are relatively poor when compared to Chelsea's and probably Spurs now.

Klopp has taken his eye off the ball and not future proofed that midfield, believing that players like Elliott and Jones could replenish the stocks there. What Ive seen of Elliott doesn't impress me that much, I dont know an awful lot about Jones.

The defence is seen as a strength of theirs. I dont see it that way. I think they're well off it.

That's an organisation that's gotten sloppy in recruitment: allowing sentiment to get in the way of ruthlessly rebuilding again.

I mean most are pretty close to this already. They’re only annoyed by Fulham because it’s the first time in ages a team has actually put a foot in against them and not just utterly capitulated once they’ve conceded one. Throw in some fair refereeing and the whole thing was just intolerable to them compared to their usual walkovers.

They’ve got a nerve complaining about teams playing up against them and not City though, every season the likes of Southampton Spurs Palace West Ham turn up and play like it’s their World Cup final against City but are then pretty much completely hopeless against Liverpool. Most teams just completely roll over to Liverpool, if they didn’t have the odd bit of complacency last season against Brighton and Brentford they’d have won the league.

The evidential threshold will be very high. I don't know how they prove a case against the French authorities or UEFA. I should imagine that if UEFA can demonstrate that large numbers of ticketless fans were in the vicinity of the ground then the case dies. UEFA can rightly argue that events on the street outside the ground are nothing to do with them.
depends what kind of court, if its a criminal then yes it is very high, if it is their equivalent of our civil courts, it may be on the balance of probabilities, ie which of the events is more likely than the other. Either way, the other side of their narrative will be heard in more detail with evidence.

Klopp set the tone by complaining that an already relegated West Brom tried too hard against them once and now Liverpool fans seem to think they have a given right for other sides to just roll over for them

You'd think they'd appreciate the fact that other teams clearly see them as a big scalp and a side worth beating?

Henderson is one of the biggest myths in all of football

It's funny when you see the likes of Kante, Carrick, Butt, Makelele, Ferandinho (valuable cogs in successful sides) getting downplayed whilst those same people will then lionise Henderson, a thoroughly average footballer who essentially won the lottery

He pads out his onfield deficiencies with all the off field stuff. Captain of the PL captain's blah blah blah.

He doesn't get on the City bench even at his peak - whenever that was.

Didnt West Ham beat the RS last season? I think Spurs got 2 draws too. Either way, they did better then we did

The Establishment club's media are still refusing to give up on their club's failure last season. They just wont acknoweldge what they got was a very easily achived domestic double.

Take a look at this lot in the last 7 days (and there was many more besides this lot below too):

"Liverpool may have been on the cusp of winning the quadruple last season"

"coming closer to winning the quadruple than any team ever has before. Liverpool legend John Barnes expects more of the same looking ahead to the upcoming campaign."

"Liverpool came within one point of regaining the Premier League title, alongside a domestic cup double last season, with Manchester City pipping them to top spot."

"After a season that almost saw Jurgen Klopp do the unthinkable as Liverpool manager and complete the elusive quadruple"

"Almost completing the impossible and winning the Quadruple last season, Klopp's Liverpool will be eager to make amends this year"

"Despite the club coming so close to winning an unprecedented quadruple"

"Having come so near, yet so far, from an illustrious quadruple,"

"After coming up just short in their chase for a historic quadruple last season"
