ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

Today's continued doubruple celebrations comes to you from This is Anfield:

[on the Ballon d'Or list] "With six goals and five assists in the second half of the season, Diaz played a huge part as Liverpool came two matches away from completing an unprecedented quadruple of trophies."

On that basis jelavic should have been nominated for that 6 mongh period after we bought him off rangers.

Checks all the parameters, scored goals, got assists didn't win a quad

They didn't end a 56-year wait. England have won the World Under-20s in the last few years. All of those players had professional contracts and they would hands-down beat the women's team. It was a good achievement to win the women's Euros, but everyone knows that the 56-year wait relates solely to the men's first team. To try to claim otherwise is disingenuous and overlooks the achievement of the men's under-20s team.

More references to last season's maginificent doubruple. From the Liverpool Echo:

"It won’t be lost on onlookers that the Reds’ quadruple surge coincided with Klopp’s squad finding itself in a rare position of avoiding any long-term injuries for the majority of the second half of the season."
What is a quadruple surge ? Does that mean a team who were in the competitions to win four trophies? How many were Everton in? Did we have a treble surge? What is it? What's going on? I hate kopites

I just like the fact it describes no long-term injuries as "rare". Apart from 20/21 and Oxlade-Chamberlain doing his ACL in 2018, have they actually even had a long-term injury?

Sky will put Souness out to pasture after this.

He’s yesterday’s man with yesterday’s opinions - and Sky have gone out of their way to push a progressive image.

Without a full apology, which he doesn’t seem interested in given his follow-up comments, I think he’s done at Sky.

He’ll turn back up with Keys and Gray on whatever Middle East network it is they’re on.

The great achievement by super stars such as Freddie Woodman, Jonjoe Kenny, Clarke-Salter, Lewis Cook, Solanke, Lookman, Dowell and Ojo.

The U20 World Cup is not a first rate competition within its respective (gender) structure otherwise we'd be talking about Ukraine as world champions.

The Women won one of the most prestigious competitions within their structure against the best female players within Europe. The men haven't.

Regarding Souness, he's a tit. I appreciate his point of being allowed to be physical (free flowing, harsher tackles...), but his comments is dripping in misogynism.

Bit harsh - Jonjoe Kenny went on to play for Hertha BSC - not many players can say that!:D

I understand your point about it being the elite level within the female gender but I find that these arguments are all very novel. Prior to the women's Euros, nobody counted the success of female teams in their major honours. I will reiterate - the success of the England women's team is not to be belittled, but it does not end the 56-year hunt for a trophy. If it does, then do we claim that Arsenal have won 28 league titles (13 men, 15 women), thus making them actually the most successful English club?

At the Olympics et al., do we discount female gold medals and only prioritise the male events in terms of success? Answers on a post card there.

Due to things they're unable to change (their genetic make-up and the fact they were banned, by males, for decades), we shouldn't discredit a top achievement.

Rightly or wrongly, the male version of the sport may still be seen as more significant by large swathes of the population, but rightfully the gap is shrinking.

Do you therefore accept that Everton's last trophy was in 1998, not 1995? Do you accept that Arsenal have won 28 league titles? Just to be clear - are you saying that major honours lists of clubs should include female team honours as indistinguishable from male because that's what they do at the Olympics?
