ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

Sky will put Souness out to pasture after this.

He’s yesterday’s man with yesterday’s opinions - and Sky have gone out of their way to push a progressive image.

Without a full apology, which he doesn’t seem interested in given his follow-up comments, I think he’s done at Sky.

He’ll turn back up with Keys and Gray on whatever Middle East network it is they’re on.

Keys and Gray support the wrong team.

They’ve made Carragher one of their headline pundits after he spat in a child’s face.

Jamie Redknapp is still on there despite partaking in lads ‘banter’ with Keys in the past.

Keane and Souness are about as bad as it gets for players who crossed the line numerous times during their playing careers.

Sky don’t care about a progressive image, they just care about whatever will get those kopite subscribers renewing and clicking.

Do you therefore accept that Everton's last trophy was in 1998, not 1995? Do you accept that Arsenal have won 28 league titles? Just to be clear - are you saying that major honours lists of clubs should include female team honours as indistinguishable from male?
You're throwing in a completely different aspect here, which is totally underpinned by trying to draw false equivalance to suit a misogynist view.

With regards to Everton, the male's last trophy is 1995 whereas the female's is 2010 as they won the Women's FA Cup. As a wider club, I'd go with the latter.

The caveat here is that while talking about Everton most people will still subconsciously associate with the male game due to no fault of their (women's) own.

Everton FC male's team have won nine league trophies, but overtime I do think the women's honours will be mentioned too. They could be amalgamated.

Right now, however, the distinction between the two is still made. When it came to England, I think rightfully the boundary between the two was removed.

With regards to England, the male's last trophy is 1966 whereas the female's was two weeks ago. As a wider nation, I'd go definitely with the latter.

Put it into another context, you could ask when did Britain last win a curling gold medal, with the answer being 2022. But that was the women, not the men.

Have GB won a medal though? Yes, so unless you're specifically prioritising one gender over the other it shouldn't be an issue at all.

Have England ended their weight for a top football trophy? Yes, that's it. Maybe the fact they were banned for decades plays a part in why their separated.

Ah tbf to him, he looked suitably embarrassed when they started all that and sat it out. He's a terrible pundit and I'm not sure there's a huge amount going on up there, but he didn't partake. Personally, I really like Keane

They absolutely do.

And people tune in to watch the football, not the pundits or their analysis. They are supremely unimportant.

Thanks, you have answered my questions. I appreciate you being honest enough to say that the Everton honours list should include women's honours as being indistinguishable from men. I personally don't agree.

Really though, by your argument you can't make excuses for people 'subconsciously' only counting the honours of men. If you are well aware of the misogyny of this two-tiered approach then others should be too. In this day and age, and in light of the Euros success, nobody has an excuse for not making women's football the equal of the men's game in your eyes. You can't have it both ways.

Mick "Big" McCarthy was always a great pundit. He wouldn't have been embarrased, and probably wouldn't have joined in. Saying that, even if he had joined in, he wouldn't have been embarrassed, or if he had been embarrased he wouldn't have joined in. I'm starting to lose track slightly but would he have sat it out? Well, who knows? One thing is for sure, we won't see his like again, or maybe we will; who knows?

Just as an aside here, I know I'm an old geezer and all, but what's this 'Awkward turtles' comment about??
A tag used for Leicester City when they won the prem a few years ago, they were not one of the "big 6" ergo they became the "awkward turtles". It has fallen out of common parlance recently but Souness appears happy to keep using it.

Souness is actually my most hated pundit even ahead of Spitty but don't think he said anything wrong at all there. Its obvious what he meant to everyone unless you have a bit of an agenda (or just sick of him which is fair enough)

What's he said now mate?

Obviously not official and by all, but the enough of the population, pushed by the media, did. Well that’s how I took it.
I agree. Opinions are split over whether “Football came home” and I suppose there are age, gender and class issues contributing to the differences. The fact that there are differences should not in any way lessen the significant achievement and impact of The Lionesses triumph but at the same time, something does not become a fact simply by repeating it ad nauseam ( not directed at you, but the media and commercial interests around the women’s game.)

I agree with most of these but not Keane, who for all his faults as a human being at least admits to having those faults and generally says what he actually thinks about a given game of football / player / manager. For example he dislikes SAF because of how him leaving United was handled and hasn't changed that opinion based on time, what they did together prior to that or even SAF being seriously ill. It is at least honest and interesting, which is more than you can say about Carragher, Redknapp or especially Souness.
