ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

There's certainly been mismanagement, which many attribute to the death of the owner and the financial impact of COVID on the owner's business.

Still, they're above us in the table, have a better squad and will be able to sell assets to develop a new squad if required. A better position than us, surely.

Yea undoubtedly a better position, but are they smashing up the top 4 on a regular basis? No they had a couple of seasons finishing fifth behind probably the worst run Sky six team in United. United were able to just drop 60 mill on Fernandes to get them out of trouble one season.

Leicester did everything right and still couldn’t get in amongst those big boys on a consistent basis. Perhaps Newcastle will break the trend, or perhaps they’ll fade away in the second half of the season, who knows, but if it was as simple as just having a decent manager and spending money wisely then a lot of mid table teams would have broken into the CL. They don’t though, because the top teams will take the best managers and the best players and pay them exorbitant wages, and if they do mess up they have no restraints to just throw 100s of millions at the problem until it disappears. Teams in mid table might get one chunk of money and then spend five years kicking their wounds if they don’t make top 4 with it.

Really? In that period we’ve sold Lukaku Stones Barkley Gueye Richarlison. We couldn’t continue to afford the wages of James either. We could only give Benitez 1.5 million due to FFP.

Yes we spent some money under Koeman Silva and Ancelotti but when you look at the sales of top players against this and spread it out over a period of more than about one season it’s nowhere near the top clubs who can pump that type of money into their squad every single window season after season without ever feeling the FFP constraints.

There’s many problems at Everton and yes we’ve bought extremely poorly but there’s just no way that there’s a level playing field financially between the top clubs and the rest. Because we wasted money on Dwight McNeill is not the reason that City and Liverpool have multiple forwards on their bench that are more expensive than our record signing.
Yes, but I wasn't talking about the rs and City, I was responding to a post which talked about the top 7.

We have spent enough money to be a regular top 7 team.

Would love to see "the Six" f'k off to the Superleague.

Replace them with half a dozen sides from the Championship and have a competitive league.

The Prem is rotten and the Champions league is a pipe dream for most.
the game we grew up with is dead anyway, what we are watching is a franchised business model that can only succeed with a small number of clubs in the hunt.

I just hope the changes to the League Cup happen and the CL sides have to field yoof teams in it going forward as at least then there is one competition we and the other clubs can enter that isn't guaranteed to be won by either Citeh, RS or Chelsea from the start.
