ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

Danny Murphy has written an article about Salah on the BBC Football page. Van Dijk then gets a mention and surprise, surprise the tackle by Pickford a million years ago gets a revisit ! Let it go ffs.
I think ‘written’ is maybe being used in a euphemistic sense here, as I’d expect that if you sat him down with writing equipment, the gargoyle would simply just eat the crayon!

It's a myth.

At the time of that derby I posted this incontrovertible evidence that shows Van Dijk clearly going over the top of the ball as Pickford then raises his legs off the ground and out of the way of Van Dijk's over the top of the ball and out of control lunge that threatened his safety.

The truth of the matter is that Pickford took evasive action that day. Van Dijk hurt himself and he should have been banned for a further 10 games after coming back from injury.

50:50 ball, Pickford had every right to go for it. What else was he supposed to do, back off and let St VD stroll around wherever he wanted? Daddy my arse, he was throwing his weight around in the opening minutes, left one on DCL, then came a cropper doing the same to Jords. How many days is it now???

Absolutely.

Pickford saw what that photo reveals - a player coming over the top of the ball to hurt him, and so he took what I'd describe as 'bracing' measures to avoid getting a terrible injury himself.

Didn't VD have a go at someone else as well. There was 2 potential yellow card tackles from him before he was murdered by Pickford, I blame the ref for not sending him off.

Rodriguez mate and caught him heavily, but that was described as a "welcome to the derby" challenge, quite joviably as I remember. Pickford challenge, y'know know the one he had every right to make was adjudged as murder.

Wrong. It wasn't even a 50-50 ball. Hopalong came in from an offside position to deliberately do Pickford.

He did it to himself.

My honest take on it is that it was a 50-50 and Van Dijk came off worse.

He should have been on a yellow for two bookable challenges (one on DCL and one on James). Commentary laugh those off as "welcome to the derby and who's the daddy challenges." He was all hyped up and getting away with it so threw himself into another and it backfired. He brought it all on himself and if RS players actually got booked when they should, the ref might have saved him from himself.

Too right, he went right through James Rodriguez on Bullens touchline early on to show who was boss and was shocked to discover later in the game, as he hobbled off, that he wasn't. They don't like it up 'em!

It's the worst tackle in the history of football.
