ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

Sky will try and build the season interest back up, when really, not many teams will really be arsed.
Every day I care a bit less about it starting again, just been on the news over 800 have died in the last 24 hours. Can see another surge in 2 weeks time after idiots go out for the easter bank holiday, this is getting worse not better and they think it's coming back? No chance

I'm not bothered mate at all, even if they were not going to win it I would not want to go back and watch us. It's over those season for me.

Yup my thoughts too. Not even arsed if they get the title. It's meaningless. The only thing 2020 will be remebered for is coronavirus not Liverpool winning the title (even though their media slugs will try their hardest to push it every chance they can get).

I can't view the article as I refuse to drop my adblocker (only do that here). What was the comment?

Well apparently...........

“Why are next seasons unplayed games more important than this seasons played games”

It’s all the fault of “bitter, twisted, demented individuals who have no rationale behind the nonsense they spew..... other than their hatred of LFC”.

“If they void the league I’ll be suing the PL - I want my money back”

“it’s the Everton Echo running this nonsense”

In reply to an Evertonian - “ the nonsense the likes of you are spouting..... pure uncut bitterness from a demented fan base”

@canuckblue - hope that gives you some idea of his rants and state of mind? :coffee:

Ye I know that will happen but I'm not arsed really mate because it shows them up for what they are really.Far too many people have died and will die to make footy any sort of relevance for me. Also I hope that would be my thoughts if it were Everton in their position.

His state of mind borders on gaseous...

Yes they really need to stop digging that hole. Blaming other clus (Always the victims never their fault) for "leaking" the story gives the impression that they are more upset about being caught than actually doing it. Also how would another Premier League team know or why would they care? My money, if there was a leak, is on a disgruntled employee telling somebody.

Yes I mean it strikes me as an organisation that can't acknowledge they have done wrong.

Forget what their fans say, this will have been driven by corporate pressure. They have enormous sponsorships, and even a 10% hit on those would render the money they get from the government irrelevant. They just need the story to go away, as it flies in the face of the very effective marketing campaign they have done. Trying to insinuate sabotage is quite dangerous thing to do and keeps the issue alive. The old fashioned "we messed up, we've learnt from it, look at the good we do" position is much better.

Interesting though, that FSG have also stated that the money will have to be made up in other ways. What hits me from this, is that the big numbers they are posting tell rather an illusionary story about the general health of the club. I have said for some time, with the spiralling costs and essentially blowing out manchester City in a spending (on wages) arms race leads them very exposed if anything were to happen. It's speculation, but I do wonder if they moved onto the furlough scheme so early, as cashflow is already presenting a problem?

The other factor is, at no point are FSG saying they will make good the salaries. They are not going to step in to save them. If they are not going to step in to save them at a couple of million a year, what happens if big sponsorships start to be lost, or downgraded? You do wonder what the "other ways" to pay this money will be (and I would suggest they will try to sell an asset). I also wonder if their portfolio in America is going to come under real pressure given how the virus is affecting the US stock exchange and with the erratic USA president governing it. Most sports investments and worth ar paper money at the best of times, and they could quite quickly find themselves in trouble.

Given Mane is soon to turn 28, as is Salah, Firmino will be 29, and the head of Germany football has said he expects the transfer market to "collapse". It will not be a good summer to have to rely on sale(s) to have to help cover big wage commitment you have made.

In truth, I think FSG may try to play the long game with this, but if they are hit hard, that may not be an option. I have mentioned Leeds united and I know people go "oh they'll be bought out". Well I can assure you, nobody is throwing money into football in it's current phase. I'd also say, they will have ensured they worded the contracts in a way to ensure they get their money back first. They will not allow Liverpool to escape the impending bankrupcy by shifting it onto them as they did H & G if it comes to that point.

So yes, there's a lot to run in this story.

What they can't grasp is this is just the logical outcome if you view it objectively. Nobody has organised any campaign to subjectively shut the league. The only people operating in such a way have been Liverpool supporters. Your Michael Owens telling us everything going great and we'll be playing again in April, while bodies pile up in the NHS. That is the epitome of demented.

However we are running out of time. There is no solution to the contracts situation. It's going to get to a point very soon that the damage limitation scenario for football is to cancel and void, cut and run and try to save the game by solving next season.

They tried very hard, but ultimately just fell short (as it stands). Good effort, try again next time. In the context of hundreds and thousands of deaths per day, who wins a game isn't important. Suck it up and get on with it lads. It's that simple.

Sorry and to the idiot threatening to sue the PL, on what basis? You buy a ST from your club, sue them if you want your money back. What's the basis of his case, I am suing you because I want you to put lives at risk and defy overwhelming medical advice.

Go ahead and sue. You will bankupt yourselves as the PL legal teams will run into the tens,if not hundreds of thousands. You will lose your homes and be left on the streets. After thats done, lets bring in a new criminal act of acting in a selfish manner and chuck you in jail for the abject selfishness you've shown in a moment of crisis. So you can rot in jail, while your family rot on the streets.

Good luck with your legal action, complete un utter bellend.

Recent response from the RE when I emailed them last week:

Thanks for your email. The comments exist on the Liverpool Echo to give people the chance to comment on the stories.

While some are offensive or spam, we have a system and team who moderate what is said and also ban people who fall foul of the rules.

Obviously that system is not perfect, but it is the best we can do given the resources we have, compared to the BBC for instance.

I'd add we are not funded by money-grabbing click bait. We use data and analytics to see what stories our audience want to read and how they want to read them, with particular emphasis on building loyalty and engagement.

Clickbait at any cost is the opposite of that.

I hope this has answered the points you raised.

My reply:

Thanks Neil

Indeed it’s far from perfect so I’d agree with you on that point at least. An understatement you might call it.
The publication now firmly sits with the gutter press. Dress it up how you want.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.
