ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

Some ex RS player Stephen Warnock (I’d never heard of him either) on Sky Sports saying Liverpool didn’t want Timo Werner lol

He’s the little turd who got in ahead of Baines for the World Cup 2010 (?) as left-back. Think he was at Blackburn at the time. Only got the nod because he was ex-RS. Baines was a far superior player at the time.

I like you posts catcherintherye. Lot of good thoughts and sensible approach to most things. Don't take any notice of the people knocking you in here.

However, I'd be amazed if Mane is sold for 50M this summer. Do Liverpool have that much debt? I'll be honest I don't take much notice to football finances, even less so to other teams. Not even seen much about Liverpool's finances in the media. Is this another example of the media burying their bad news and painting a rosy picture when it's far from it?

On Mane, he's just turned 28 so I would say Hazard is a comparable transfer. He went for 100M last summer and had just 1 year left on his contract. Is Mane going for less due to Liverpool's financial issues, the downturn in the transfer market of a bit of both?

It's hard to say but I'd have Mane as one of the Top 5-10 attacking players in the World so him going would make a massive impact. With 50M they wouldn't be able to replace him adequately either.
I think it suites the rs perfectly to keep a hold of Sane at the moment. His transfer value has been hit by the pandemic and the replacement will be also tricky to get in place. He'll still be worth a lot in the transfer market, but I doubt that it'll be as astronomical as they wish.

This would be fine if all player transfers were like for like down on pre-covid prices, and maybe they will be. But not so great if you are carrying a lot of debt that you need to pay down through ever rising prices. We shall see what we shall see.

if ex players and pundits want a career in the media then they know they have to toe the propaganda line. That’s why you get the likes of Jenas, Sutton, Savage etc. supporting Liverpool against their former clubs.

Every club is in the same predicament. No club can afford to see one asset’s value decrease to zero then replace them with an asset of equal quality for a huge fee. Even Madrid sold Ronaldo rather than letting his contract run down. We’ll have to sell Richarlison at some point when his value is highest because we cannot afford for him to one day leave for free and us to spend another 60 mill in the market to replace him. Liverpool will have to weigh up whether it’s worth holding onto a depreciating basset knowing at some point Mane will need to be replaced and won’t have value, or whether they sell him for whatever they can get in the Covid market and use the funds to refresh the team. Every single club has these sorts of decisions.

Liverpool Fans who think Mbappe and Werner will join on top of the front three they already have are delusional. One problem they will have is that Salah and Van Dijk are on 200k plus whilst Mane is half that so he may be demanding he gets parity if he stays.

It's good though that Mane, Salah Firminho are all coming to the end of their peak years and Upto the thirty stage, where they start to slow down and pick up more injuries. :) Hard to replace all 3 together.
