Racism is worse against black people than white because of slavery and hundreds of years of white opression like apartheid.

Racism is worse against Jews than white British people because of the Holocaust.

Racism is worse against Pakistani people than white due to years of 'get the Pakis out' and organisations like the BNP and National Front basically terrorising Asians.

There's never been a prolonged period of oppression or mass genocide against white British people.

I'm not a militant anti-racism campaigner but I think that's a very naive view of things. Of course some black people use 'racism' as an excuse to behave badly, and I think racism against white people from any non-white person should have the same punishment as if it were the other way round.

But if the next 50 years were years of black people having white slaves or Jews killing millions of white people in 50 years after that all ended things would be the exact opposite.

"Two wrongs don't make a right" springs to mind.

Because something bad happened to a black guys great-grandfather over a hundred years ago doesn't give them the right to be militantly racist towards whites in 2012.

It's just as bad. I think slavery and the incredible racism back then was overwhelmingly stupid, but because I'm white I apparently inherit those crimes? Makes no sense to me - I'm my own man with my own thoughts, and I believe people of any colour should be as well.

Living your life hating a group of people based on skin colour for reasons based in ancient history makes no sense whatsoever to me.
 

Think you've missed the point there, Tubey. Sorry mate. Azzuri wasn't saying it was OK to hate white people because of slavery. He was explaining why racism against minorities is thought of as worse and that it carries heavier connotations.

I don't think it's something you can comprehend properly unless you're part of a minority. Or that's the conlusion I've drawn from speaking to black and asian friends, anyway. We don't know what it's like to be reminded of your skin colour every single day, or for it to be an issue to anyone. We don't get turned down for jobs, overlooked for promotion, get told to "go home", get racially profiled by the police etc etc. This **** can grind you down. There's no comparison for whites in this country.

Comments llike "You [insert colour here] [Poor language removed]" are just the thin end of the wedge.

Exactly Tubey you've missed the point.

I wouldn't have a problem with someone calling me a 'white ______' because I've never had a problem being white. If it happened near enough every day like it does for some people I'd hate it.

Racism's worse against minorities because basically if the majority wanted to enforce slavery or apartheid again they could. Someone of a minority racially abusing a white person is wrong, but if that white person had been rejected from pubs or not made any mates in school purely because they were white it'd be different.

Actually there has been - during the Saxon invasion there appears to have been a massive number of deaths (especially of British males), which was almost certainly down to human action.

However if its just oppression that is being considered, then dont forget that for almost all of recorded British history the poorest members of society (which was of course most people) had to live under some quite astonishingly bad conditions that were usually deliberately imposed from above - this resulted in life . It really is not until after the end of WW2 that society started to treat most of its citizens with anything like humanity.

Yeah I know, and African tribes had slaves from Eastern European countries in like 200 AD or something, I mean in modern times really. Not slavery but Apartheid and not sitting on the front of buses and that.
