ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

.....not sure which thread to post on, but had a chat in the pub about World Cup squad this afternoon. Folk know I've had a couple of quid on Stones to be in at a big price and I really don't think it will happen, but here's how the conversation went;

RS; Stones; No, not enough experience.
Eggs; Fair comment, but if Jones is out then there's nobody who has many caps. I really think this lad is quality.
RS; If Jones doesn't go then it has to be Flanagan.
Eggs; Eh, Flanagan can't fill in at Centre Back.
RS; Yes, but he can play left back.
Eggs; But we are ok at left back, its Centre Back that we need cover.
RS; Then I'd take Kelly before Stones. And I'd take Sterling before Barkley.
Eggs; Sterling is fair enough, but he plays a different position than Barkley.
RS; Erm, but Sterling is flexible.
Eggs - end of conversation.

Everything you need to know in a small conversation.
I really hope that the person you were talking to had been hitting the bar a lot before hand!

If Glen Johnson was a player like Baines (both injury and talent wise) there might be a case for taking Flanagan as a backup to both fullbacks, leaving both Shaw & Cole at home. Could then use the place freed up for an extra CB or defensive midfielder or even gamble with an extra attack minded player. But that would assume that Johnson was reliable.....

....but you're a logical football person. Good shout about taking Flanagan to release both Shaw and Cole, certainly an option but I don't think that will happen. I reckon he will take 2 left backs and I think he will rely on a Smalling or Jones to fill in at RB if Johnson is injured and Walker unavailable. I think it will be a 'safe' squad and we will have to win our last game to qualify for the knock out stage.

Just been on KUMB the West Ham forum, hahahah many of them wouldn't mind losing to keep Liverpool from winning the title, there's even a thread about it. Aren't they supposed to be neutrals, willing Liverpool to win the league, and to see the great modern hero Gerrard finally lifting a deserved Premier League trophy? Tut tut. Is it West Ham's fault now at least?

on the BBC website:

Premier League: Man City and Liverpool set for title finale
A dramatic Premier League season comes to a conclusion on Sunday, with Manchester City favourites to pip Liverpool and win the title.

Manuel Pellegrini's City side will be champions if they draw or win their home game against West Ham.

Liverpool - in the 25th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster - can clinch their first league title since 1990 by beating Newcastle if City lose.

This is what rodgers has done - it's shameful. there's no difference between the 25th anniversary and the 26th, why should the tragedy be brought up? it has no relevance to this season's title race.

IF they draw or win their home game against West Ham.
BY beating Newcastle
No bias there then.

I agree that he'll take two left backs and tbh think it is probably the right move although I'm a little worried Roy doesn't rate Baines that highly defensively and will default to Cole when under pressure.

Our options for RB really are poor. I love Stones and really hope he goes as a CB and think he deserves it on merit ahead Smalling/Jones but he is probably the weakest of the three as RB cover. Leaves me hoping that Johnson is better and less injury prone than I think he is!

I'm really hoping this is like 2010 when united could win it on the last day but Chelsea beat wigan 8-0 with little doubt who was winning the league.

People forget that qpr needed a result at city 2 years ago whereas west ham don't. Every time I have watched west ham they have been awful. I also think they will need to score at least twice to win as I can't see city not scoring. I've said for weeks it wouldn't be settled on goal difference.

so with all that said why am I this nervous?

I will be leaving the world if they win the league. So i'll say my goodbyes now.

lol

I think you speak for us all there.

...imagine the large slice of schadenfreude to be enjoyed if it goes the way we want it though.
