ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

..in the twilight of his career and even after he's hung up his boots I wonder if gerrard might regret not moving to one of the top, top clubs at home or abroad when he had the chance. Ok, he's won plenty but perhaps he took the safe option and that will always be reflected in public opinion.

i think he will. he'll do his usual pretend stuff and say it was a joy to be a one man club, wouldn't have it any other way, but it'll be a lie like most the things he says.

one title race in his whole career. he would have been in a fair few at chelsea and won a couple. he bottled it, quite simply.

Just seen on the Sunderland forum someone asking "England win the world cup or Newcastle get relegated?" I'm sure if the question was "England win the world cup or Liverpool get relegated?" then there is only one answer....
I may be in the minority, but I wouldn't want Liverpool to be relegated straight away. I'd much rather see them languish in the lower reaches of the division while we swept all before us, winning trophy after trophy, whilst also doing the double over them every season with the occasional last minute winner from an unheard of substitute. Our captain could even have few bevvies and get the crowd to sing about how tragic their predicament was. A sort of 70's reversal in fortune if you like. Then I'd have them relegated.

I think it's serious.

I'd rather have Keane than Gerrard in his prime.

maybe they were talking about 2018 WC?? 4 years of relegation struggling.

Loads of pain like,so the relegation would come as a relief, go along with that.

I still beam whenever I remember their end of season. It was perfect. They were celebrating as though they'd won it. Full gloating mode was activated.

Then they desecrated two of their favourite things to choke and pass it to City. St Stevie of the Slip first and then coming from 3 down to gain a draw a la Crystanbul.

The thing I will take most is how the footballing community united to reject them as possible champions. Despite their sustained ex player PR campaign in the media it was apparent that the neutral fan really can't stand them. It heartens me greatly. Man Utd just had unprecendented success for 20 years winning many leagues but were never hated on such a scale by the average fan. Liverpool never even won the league (LOL) but the mere threat of it induced a despising that any champions of recent memory never encountered.

Summer and football in general just got good again.

i think it will get better next season tbh. they won't be finishing 7th again (well it's not entirely impossible but can't see it) but they just don't have the squad at all to cope with league and CL. they're defence is going to get torn to shreds if they end up with a group like arsenal had this season. glenn johnson, skrtel and sakho in the CL, ha. their last 3 games seemed to suggest teams were wising up to them, well actually they just bottled it ha.

I know I've said it before. I was convinced it was gone, truly accepted it was. I often console myself with the fact they do so often explode in a laughable state. They didn't disappoint.

Not sure whether I enjoyed the slip. The Chelsea mauling after attempting to worry them at Formby Hall, or the Crystanbul affair more.
