every time i see one in the street now with their scummy top on i just smile at them, can't help laughing at them. none of them look happy anymore, you can just tell that morning they looked at their shirt in disgust and it felt like a chore to put that RS on but they have to get their money's worth as they'll buy another one soon.

It's weird, kopites love to bang on (usually correctly) about how English players are always massively overrated, yet they can't see it with Gerrard.

Gerrard is/was a very, very good CM. But just off the top of my head he was worse than Fabregas, Viera, Keane, Lampard, Essien, Makele, Modric, Alonso, Juninho, Yaya Toure, David Silva, Scholes.

You could make a case that he was no worse than some of them I guess but basically Fergie was right, he isn't a top, top, top player.

Spot on that. He's basically a snide Bryan Robson playing his football in an age when superlatives about being world class are thrown about in social media and reiterated by nobhead hacks who haven't got a clue about football.

Captain fantastic who pulled the fat from the fire on a few high profile occasions? Yes, fair enough. But no more than that. To call him world class is a degradation of that term rendering it meaningless.
