ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

It's a decent proven premier league player which will allow them to rotate their strikers for prem / CL games.

Who plays a completely different style to their normal game, under a manager who is notorious for having no Plan B.

He's also 32 years old. Is an average of 14 goals a season over 2 seasons 'proven'?

I can genuinely say that if we'd signed Lambert for the reported fee, I'd be very disappointed.

tbh anichebe was £6m, i'd rather an older lambert for that sort of price.

i agree that someone can't be proven after just two seasons though, i imagine a few of those would have been pens taht he won't get for them, he's never had european football ever has he?

you'd think with their resources he'd be 4th choice though, surely they'd want a better option and better potential as a 3rd choice, unless that's borini?

Liverpool dont play in a way that you can rotate. Aspas Borini barely given a game this year. They don't have a system like us or Arsenal or United under Ferguson. Theirentire game isbased around Gerrard releasing quick ball, Sturridge and Sterling flying up to stretch the defense leavung Suarez loads of room. Henderson then chases if someone messes up. If Gerrard or Suarez is missing then you see the defend and hope for 1-0 ploy.

You can't just replace Suarez for Lambert. At Arsenal or City they put chances on a plate for Giroud and Dzeko. You could rotate them with Lambert but not Suarez, they would have to change their whole way of playing.

He's a Liverpool fan and money is no object for them. Them signing him to us signing him is completely different. For us, dire signing. For them, clever squad buy.

I see todays Echo ups the ante cringe-wise with Pearl Drops on Lambert.

However, before the Reds faced Saints at Anfield last September the Northern Irishman paid a warm tribute to the striker, who had recently scored on his England debut against Scotland.
“I think Rickie is a terrific player,” said Rodgers.
I sent him a fax when he made his England debut as I know he is a big Red. I sent it on behalf of the club and all Kopites.
“He is a Kirkby boy and I was just wishing him well, saying we were all proud of him playing for England.

Think he forgot the ps...."sorry we released you and broke your heart when you were 15, but I wasn't there then so thats ok then, so it is"

I am sure that they can have a plan B if they need to implement one.

They cannot keep playing the way they played all last season, they will be found out as they were against Chelsea and Palace.

I am sure Rodgers is intelligent enough to know that.

He may be intelligent but he is a man in thrall to his own ego and is revelling in his self awarded reputation as a buccaneering, devil may care, latter day Mario Zagala who worries only about scoring "more goals than the opposition".

You know when people say 'Ricky Lambert is a proven scorer in the Prem'....

He's 32 years old. The first 14 years of his career he was playing in the lower leagues. He's played 2 seasons in the Premier League, scoring a total of 28 goals. 15 goals in 2012/13, 13 goals last season. He's not exactly Dixie Dean is he?

He's been decent in the Premier League, but 'proven'? Two seasons? I keep going back to the Kone comparison - he scored 13 goals in his first season in the Prem. He got injured early on and missed pretty much the whole of his 2nd season. Who's to say if he'd stayed fit, he'd have scored a similar number of goals again in his second season?

Liverpool nearly won the league last season. Would the likes of Chelsea have signed Lambert? Arsenal? Even Man Utd? Or would they have aimed higher? Bear all this in mind when LFC fans rave about Lambert.

A weird signing, given what Liverpool already have in attack, and where their glaring deficiencies lie (DEFENCE!!!!).

How many of them were free kicks and penalties as well? He's scored a fair few. Take those away (yes they need to be put away, especially free kicks etc but i'm trying to make a point) and his scoring record isn't much better than Anichebe's.
