I just love this from today's Telegraph ......

"A long list of targets has been drawn up by Liverpool's transfer committee, who have been criticised in the past for failing to deliver enough top-class recruits because of their policy of not paying over the odds for players."
 

Signing Lambert could be a shrewd move. I know he's 32 but he still has 2 years left on his contract and he's scored more than Van Persie, Adebayor, Benteke, Eto'o and Negredo this season so it's unfathomable that Southampton would let him go so cheaply.

It is surprising considering they've got CL millions to spend and they ordinarily have a Moneyball approach to signing younger players. I actually thought they'd go for Jay Rodriguez.

Vorm to provide competition for Mignolet wouldn't surprise me at all and I can see Rodgers going back in for Sigurdsson. Lallana would suit them well too. I thought they might have been mentioned in the running for Shaw.

I expect the fans are a bit disappointed to see them going for Lambert rather than a big name.

You would have thought so too ............ But I'll finger Chris Bascombe as the author of this and it's in all seriousness within a long article on RS buying Lambert among their other "targets"
The article also says:

"Liverpool are in talks with numerous clubs across Europe, evidently determined to show that they mean business in the transfer market ..."

Go on to name several players who may rock up in answer to Brenda siren call.
