I was going to add that Carralar was there first season, but he was pretty much shot by then anyway. Agger isn't top draw but he'd have stopped some of that. Maybe he liked to hog the ball too much and it put their game out of whack vis-a-vis Gerrard getting it all the time and playing it quickly and long.

Mystifying to me, though, that a 'top' manager makes a whole defensive unit worse as he's gone along. That's Brent's genius i suppose.
