This LFC Echo feller slays me he really does.

Right off the back off his 'We Go Again' season review abomination he delivers a welter of data on Lambert, desperate to defend his signing from charges of another fundamental shift in Brendan's "filosofee".

The cult will always get the hack they deserve at the Echo, that's for sure.

Ha Ha Ha. They commission this graffiti at Melwood. Unreal.

Libpool defensive performance in Brendan's two seasons

12/13------------------13/14

43...Goals Conceded...50
16...Clean Sheets.......10
142..Shots Faced.......158
171..Tackles Lost.......206
78.5%..Tackles Won (%)..75.7%

For all the attacking prowess, how can you have a team get worse on you at the back like that?
You employ a previously decent attacking midfielder whose legs have gone into a defensive midfield role, then get the media to whip up the hype that the conversion has been seamless and the said midfielder is now the world's best in that position. England had the same problem with him on Friday, does not provide the cover of a Barry or McCarthy.

I said the same during the game. He was poor on Friday night...slow, cumbersome, caught in possession and wayward dead balls. Playing there for England is a different equation than for LFC where he is afforded deference by his in awe teammates. I don't know whether the recent suggestion that he would retire from the England set up was the 'get out of jail free' for another mediocre World Cup, but I hope Hodgson realises that Gerrard and Henderson arent necessarily the dream ticket people would have you think. The suggestion from Gerrard that "he (Henderson) can do my running" is all well and good as long as Gerrard does what he should. Next season, when the Champions League games will add to the toll of playing through the Summer, should be the real acid test for them.

Jordan Henderson is a very limited footballer and Friday night illustrated how limited he is. He ran around a lot, or stood to the right of the centre circle, waiting for Gerrard to pass it to him and then pass it back again or when he did try and pass it forward his hoofs went out or he passed to a Peruvian. When Cahill had the ball he stood 5 yards away and got in the way rather than moving further forward.

Henderson was like a spare part at a wedding. If Hodgson's idea is to have him in the middle as cover in case Gerrard slips or can't run it is a waste of a player. The whole talk about England should 'play like LFC' was exposed on Friday. LFC play long balls to Suarez and Sturridge pre-dominantly by Gerrard but the rest of England's team don't play the long ball game.

The whole game, England were completely disjointed, because Henderson was told to be near Gerrard in case, and this was compounded by Welbeck and Sturridge trying to dribble too much, ending up going down blind alleys and hitting a wall. Wilshere did the same when he came on. It was as if those 3 players were saying, 'look at me and how good I am'.

England will never get out the group stage playing like they did on Friday. They do not play as a team but as a group of individuals and as such the opposition are able to get bodies behind the ball. It is debatable whether England can create goals and will have to rely on the spectacular, like Friday night, or from set pieces/corners, again like Friday. In a way that is what LFC have been doing all season with something like 30% of goals coming from free kicks, corners or penalties add to that the amount of goals from break aways.

It will be interesting to see how much Gerrard actually plays in the world cup due to the heat and he looks knackered. Unless he is rested a lot, by November he will be on the treatment table or playing at a snail's pace. If England don't do well there will be a growing momentum that will question whether he should be playing, the same will go for Henderson.
