Suarez butts a ref > ref makes report > local mobsters tell him to change it > journo picks up on report > journo gets shot.

Nothing to see here. Just your average footballer's rise to the top.
You missed out the bit where the whole thing is wiped from history.

Good article, a bit too apologetic for my liking though. Biting people and attempting to end careers isn't the actions of a poor boy trying to make a life for himself, no matter how eloquently it is argued as such.
Understandable I suppose. He probably took the reporter Gabito's shooting on board and isn't willing to suffer the same treatment. It goes without saying the yellow dog journalists at the Echo wouldn't even go near the incident in the first place.

Carnage follows wherever that goofy turd has placed his devil like hooves.

Fascinating article that Dave, cheers. Certainly provides insight into an obviously complex and damaged character. The caveat though is that there are footballers from slums/favellas/projects/sink estates the world over who just get on with their jobs and enjoy the fortunes that life's bestowed on them for however long they can. If Liverpool really wanted to stand by their new favourite son then perhaps counselling and psychological assessment and treatment might be more appropriate than T-Shirts, avoidance and straw man threats.

I did do a double take at this:

Sure, his head hit the referee's face, but not on purpose. "He fell," Martinez Chenlo said, "accidentally into the referee."

Sound familiar? Its a term of affection.... he only gnawed his arm he didn't bite it -> © RAWK

What is it about this guy that inspires this kind of denial?

It's the indulgence of a child. Just like Gascoigne's excesses.

Still, he was 'good' this season. Apparently we're all supposed to be grateful he didn't racially abuse other players or bite them. Reformed character etc etc.

He looks desperate to play. I think he'll take part, though he clearly isn't anywhere near fit. Just the type of scenario where a player has a relapse and doesn't fully recover for years if at all. Which is nice.

Youre right there. Hopefully his karma will unravel and strangle him and his apologists as the tournament progresses. What odds a July Echo supplement...Incandescent Reds Fans Fury Over Uruguay's Treatment Of Poor Luis.

Role model mate.....and he's a good family man, loves kids apparently. An all round good egg.......when you skip past the racism, violence and tendency to cheat

The author of that article, Wright Thompson, is probably one of American ESPN's best reporters. He's with the crew in Brazil doing feature pieces on the country itself for the next month.

I bet that referee was laughing his bolocks off listening to the big tart whimpering into his shirt after the final whistle at Palace.
