It has been a funny old week this one, listening to the RS dominated media. It started last Saturday when Micky Quinn said to Georgie Bingham, 'Georgie, you know the media better than me, why is it that after Oxlade Chamberlain has one good game the media are building him up to be a world beater, a Messi, Ronaldo, Maradona'. I nearly crashed the car laughing my head off that Quinn is so up himself and his fanaticism for all things RS that he doesn't get the irony of his remark. This was followed by how 'Sterling has taken the prem by storm this season so should be a starter for England'. Oxlade Chamberlaine has been injured for most of the season but some of the games I've seen him play, in the premier league or Europe, he has been good, so obvious not a one off. Sterling has had a good season, but it could stretch the imagination that he should be a definite starter for England.
On the Monday Alan Brazil show he always has Robbie Fowler, the fans voice!!!!, on his show and he came up with the 'Lambert is a definitely start for England, for me, as he adds something different'. Before he signed for the RS, Lambert was just a squad player, now he is a 'definite starter, for me'.
Hodgson is on a hiding to nothing this world cup. If he doesn't play all the RS players then he will be castigated. If Egland don't play well with all the RS players playing, then he 'is using them wrongly'. Hodgson is no fool and he knows he got the sack because Gerrard and Carragher were working behind the scenes and whinging about Hodgson, his signings and tactics.
The funniest thing this week has seen the re-emergence of RS shirt wearing tossers around Hull. At the start of last season they where nowhere to be seen, then as the season progressed more and more of them can out of the closet and re- declared their enthusiasm. After the Great Capitulation the shirts were put back in the drawer. They seem to have dusted them down and are clamouring to be seen around the city centre. It is as if there has been a message sent out, 'to wear your LFC shirt' as they are everywhere. Maybe, it is due to the large number of RS players in the England squad and they think they can bask England's being under the spotlight. At first I just thought it was me that noticed it but met up with a few mates yesterday afternoon for a few beers and the first thing they all said was, 'why all the Liverpool shirts around town'.
