ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

Look guys, I know how you all feel about Hansen and the other ex-Liverpool players ending up on the box giving their two pent worth but can you not see who will be filling the seat very soon---- yep Gerrard. It is nailed on.

Interesting that now Sanchez has gone they are talking of Bony, btw notice Arsenal are looking at Remy, two names that have appeared in the forum as possible replacements for ROM.

I don't think Gerrard will be a fixture...maybe a guest appearance every now and then. Hes treated as goldenballs because of his "stature" however inflated that may be. But hes a first class bore to camera and Id guess he'd be reluctant to criticise players. If youre right, the pharmaceuticals will be up in arms as he'll put the sleeping pill industry into receivership zzzzz

That doesn't mean they can be mocked as some nowhere club with a rubbish manager. They came 2nd, from 7th to 2nd. There is every chance they'll win it this year.

Every chance?

No European football and Suarez = 2nd.

European schedule and no Suarez = 5th-7th

I'd love to join in with the Brenda Bashing but I actually don't think he's THAT bad a manager.

I don't think he's as good as the people on RAWK seem to think, but I don't think he's rubbish or anything

Questionable in the transfer market though, but that could change if his splurge this summer works out for him

Big year for him this season.

Can't see him getting near to the levels of performance from last season.

One of the reasons England has performed so poorly over the last few years. His rally war cries must be akin to an obituary.

They were completely injury free (main players). They had one of the worldsbest up front for them in top form. United were in transition. City were in transition and had Aguero out most of the season. Arsenal were decimated by key injuries. Chelsra didnt have a decent striker. All of the above teams had champions league'/fa cup runs. Liverpool had neither. Liverpool got almost double the number of pens of any other team. They scored a huge number of set pieces. They played in an unusual style that the bottom end of the prem could not adapt to. It was a weak premier league that rewarded sides wjo beat dross.A lot of the referees were in their favour. The fixture list gave them every top side at home in the second half.

Despite all this they still didnt win it! Which of the above factors will change thid season in their favour? None.

They blew their "on a plate" chance last season in grandstand style. People can play down the fact that Suarez engineered...for he did...his move away, but the fact remains that he "was" their title challenge. Gerrard still bears the flush of embarrassment if you ask me and that's apart from his England non-event in Brazil. Rodgers is trying to paper over the cracks with a flash of the cheque book, fair enough. But they aren't even a "work in progress" yet and I cant imagine the Kopites being too patient with a group of expensive strangers not hitting the ground running. Style over substance wont win them the league.

Last time they came 2nd, they lost an important player, didn't replace him properly and then came 7th the next year.

I think Rodgers did very well last year, much better than I was expecting, but he's still trophyless and his big test is keeping it up without his best player.

I can't see them doing half as well this year, tbh.

They came 2nd. Can't understand everyone in here using that as a way of getting one over on them.

No they didn't. They won it. I saw the parades and everything.

Neil Young even wrote a song about it. Sort of. Ish.

"Well, I dreamed I saw the silver
Space ships flying
In the yellow haze of the sun,
There were children crying
And colors flying
All around the chosen ones."

Maybe not

Liverpool will be in the mix I think though

Those saying they'll be scrapping for sixth are thinking wishfully I fear. Even if they don't win the league, they'll be looking for a Champions League place

United will be back in the mix this season and Arsenal have strengthened. I look at Liverpool minus Suarez and see nothing special.

If Bobby gets it right this window we will have a good chance of running those teams close again.

Yeah Man U without Moyes should be top 4.

This is the same team that completely walked the league just 12 months ago.

And if they're going to take a top 4 space, who do you think is going to drop out? Wenger, Mourinho, Pellegrini or a manager who's never won a trophy in his career?

I think this upcoming season will be the season when the bubble finally bursts for Wenger

He's going to sign naff all as usual where as everyone else in that mix will sign new players or have money to spend

Wenger will stubbornly not buy anyone, buoyed by the confidence of winning the FA Cup, and he'll fall out of the top 4 as a result

He's just spent 35 million on one of the stars of the world cup
