ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

Liverpool felt inevitable though. I remember after the Norwich game genuinely coming to terms with them winning the league.

I know what ya mean, but only because it was them. Newcastle felt inevitable in January at the time, but it didn't matter too much as they're not our rivals.

If they'd kept Suarez (and without any bans in place), I'd say they could have learned from the experience and been up there again this season especially with additions. But Suarez has blown it for them.

If Suarez had stayed they would have been right up there challenging. Without him they will have to get more players forward, to compensate for the lack of quality, leaving them vulnerable to the counter attack. And with knackered Gerrard holding the fort, they are in for a rough ride.

They haven't replaced any of their defenders either, you can't win titles leaking that many goals.

Yeah, I can see the point there. Probably felt far more daunting that it was them and I've never really been in the position before of having to see them win the league (I wasn't really old enough to understand football the last time they won it).

I think this is a massive factor. If he shows anything like the frailties of last season, which I think highly likely, this would scuttle Rodgers plans. Gerrard's inability to stay back will be tested and if he doesn't curb the gungho run/lose possession routine, their as yet unstrengthened defence wont cope as they capitulate under any concerted pressure. I say unstrengthened as I don't rate Skrtel or Agger, with the latter probably wanting the off if hes behind the pecking order of Lovren and Coates who Rodgers has suddenly started to big up.

They are trying to sign Manqillo (RB) and Moreno (LB). Both untried in the Prem. And with Lovrens they have 3 new defenders. They could bring Lloris back from his loan. But will they be good enough to halt them shipping goals? Doubt it. Lovrens may have been good for Southampton but he had 2 defensive midfielders in front of him. Gerrard is no Sneiderlin or Cork in the defensive role. And Henderson will be too busy running around attempting to win the ball back. Can Can be disciplined enough to stay as a holding midfielder?

Rodgers is doing what he has done since he took over at LFC buy loads in the hope that some will work out.

Watched their game against Man City the other night. When LFC had the ball they poured forward with 7 players in City's half, that left Gerrard and the 2 CB's. Very gung-ho and a recipe to get caught on the counter. Will be interesting if they do the same tonight.

I sometimes think they cant help but do the same..it hasn't been knocked out of them yet. Teams should also cotton onto the amount of corners Gerrard takes....any quick opposition clearance downfield would see him blowing for tugs to get back to assist the floundering Skrtel.
