ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

I had a taxi back from the airport last weekend. Taxi driver was a red, I asked him his expectations for the season, prompting with happy to make sure you consolidate top 4 and get to after Christmas in the Champions League or would you prioritise a trophy? (which to be fair a lot of mates of mine who are reds have said they'd happily take this season). His response was astounding.

"I expect us to win it to be honest mate, the way we finished the season last year, can't see why we won't this year. As for the Champions League, get the right draw, can't see why we won't win that as well." I mentioned the loss of Suarez and he dismissed it out of hand with "Liverpool have always lost players in the past and it's never stopped us before, I can't see it making any difference." Went on to say his mates had similar expectations and he couldn't believe how long their odds for the title were.

Now I appreciate that all clubs have some delusional fans, but for me that was above and beyond, not to hope, but to expect to do the premiership and champions league double. The mind boggles.

I honestly don't think it's bias, or blue tinted specs on my part when I say I think of this season's title race as Man City vs. Chelsea (with the latter heavy favourites, could be a over by April season), Arsenal could go either way with a half-hearted challenge (and then comfortably taking 3rd) or a fight for Champions League places with us, Liverpool, Man U and Tottenham where 3rd and 4th are up for grabs.

You should've told himt hey've not won the league for quarter of a century.

He was tripe for the last half season before joining Chelsea, hence the amazement at getting £50m for him.
i remember them bein gutted at him wantin to leave, think they thought his poor performances were down to hodgson

ur right like, but it is a stretch to say they made him poo, he did his hammy a couple of times and that did his pace iirc.

Martin Tyler is in full-on 'B..B..B..but, but, but' mode on the commentary re-writing last season, even mentioning the most goals from outside the box cup.

I did like how he listed all their achievments like that last season and actually included "most penalties" as if it was something to be proud of.

Forgot Owen!

Liverpool overplayed Torres massively to the point where his hamstrings gave up. Same as Owen.

I love the way he uses the word 'family' all the time...when he frigged off from his own and has a beast of a son.
