ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

I think so too. Can't wait. Ill disciplined, tactically naive, long ball nugget.

24 months from now his LFC legacy will hopefully be "the slip" and completing the slide into mid-low table obscurity. Of course, to the cretins in the cult it won't be Steevees fault. "the grass were too wet, Ba tripped him and it's de yanks fault for not backing him with more than £100m in one summer"
I believe it has been well established that "Ba was Offside...he was offside...I'm not 'avin' that"!!

He'll be in the frame when Gnashers is finally put out of his misery. If he doesn't get the job straight away he'll be named as an assistant. He's biding his time, Gerrard. I dont think he has any intention of walking away from Liverpool. As said, I'd guess the contract he's been offered needs to have a coaching role attached to it for Gerrard to accept it. Rodgers has said it's not down to cash.

He will be in the frame, but its hard to see how anyone apart from Dalglish would have him as assistant; it would be like Caesar adopting Brutus. Also I think the contract issue is more about playing time than a coaching role, B-Rod would probably love to fob him off with working with the ressies / kids as he wouldnt have to then deal with explaining every week why he wasnt picked.

Though saying that I am not sure that even them would just give him the managers job straight away. Yes, its never easy to state who would and who wouldnt be a great manager until they do it, but he has never struck me as someone who has oodles of tactical nous.

The vast majority of top managers in history were not great players themselves. Only have to look at the current crop to see that - e.g. Loew, Mourinho, Wenger, LVG, Martinez - in the past Moyes, Benitez for example etc

The PL managers XI (best footballers) wouldn't exactly be bristling with great stars

Koeman and Hughes and then Poch/Pellegrini/Poyet/Redknapp/Lambert to a lesser extent are the only really decent ones amongst them but it's hard to make a case for too many past and present PL managers being truly great at both disciplines though Brian Clough was one stand out example and further back the likes of Busby in particular and Shankly and - if you ignore the fact he coached some great players (which obviously helped) then probably Beckenbauer might be the leading candidate.

Cruyff wasnt bad, nor was Kendall.

With him though I think his career - which basically consists of fifteen years of him getting them out of trouble by scoring goals and running about a lot - doesnt really seem to lend itself to him being a decent manager.

Personally I think you either 'get' football or you don't. Liking it , watching it or even playing it at any level is not enough to be a top manager... You really have to get the game, have a feel for it and an instinct to know when it's not right and what to do.... You can't teach that, it's either in you or it's not.

If fergie was in charge he'd have been fcked off about four seasons ago. No room for sentiment if you want to be successful. Well maybe not fcked off but he'd have a much diminished role a la Giggs & Scholes at united.
Fcked off 4 seasons ago? He's nae been there 4 months mate

Reckon if Rodgers really does reduce Slippy's game time then they'll be contenders for top 4 if they can keep in touch til Sturridge gets back

I have to disagree. They have at least 6 points more than their performances warrant. Very lucky to beat Southampton, QPR and Stoke. They are in a false position and should have 8-11 points max at the moment. I don't recall a more awful Liverpool team.

Worst story ever. Says a lot that it reinforced the stereotypes of 6 different groups (2 of which he belongs to), but only 1 sees fit to make a fuss.

And before the mods say stay on topic, I believe this is a case of a witch hunt against the RS ;)
