ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said: “This transfer represents outstanding value for the club and I think we have done a really smart piece of business here.

"There is no doubting Mario's ability; he is a world-class talent and someone who, for such a young age, has vast experience of playing at the very highest level.

"He has scored goals in the Barclays Premier League, in Italy, in the Champions League and for his country at international level.

"I believe we have the infrastructure, culture and environment to get the best out of him and help him achieve his true potential. We are a strong group here, committed to hard work and he will benefit from being around it.

"I am looking forward to working with him and helping him learn more, improve and progress as a player. I'm sure the supporters will make him feel very welcome."

Yep, when he signed he kept banging on about the calculated risk :s

Brendan: 'When I first came to Liverpool, I put my principles in place; this is the way I work.

'Once I was bedded in and people understood, I became a little more democratic, more educational. But after Palace, I’m thinking “Right, I need to become autocratic again.”

'I've provided even more clarity, been more concise in the ways of working.'

LMAO That's hilarious.

I know Martinez can be a bit cringey with his phenomenal silliness, but Rodgers just talks complete psycho babble b.s. 24/7.

He's the gift that just keeps on giving.

I've never seen him in a pullover . Probably because he can't get one over his head . What an absolute..( insert own word )

Ha Ha Ha.

FFS, he's almost beyond parody.

So, in translation, "Last year was down to me being brilliant, our start was the players fault, and now we have had a few results, thats now me again"

“As as a club we felt that buying Mario was the solution at the time,” said Rodgers.

“In the summer, we had Rickie Lambert. Fabio Borini looked 100 per cent that he was leaving, and obviously Daniel Sturridge has shown in his career so far that he gets injuries.

“To go into the season with no-one else would have been very difficult for us."

“It would have been unfair to leave Rickie Lambert, as a 32-year-old, as the only other striker that we had.

I felt it was a risk we needed to take with Mario because, as a group, we couldn’t afford not to a that time.

“It was obviously late on and we needed to have someone in.

“It’s something that we can’t regret now. I made it clear at the beginning it was a calculated risk - and that is why he probably cost the money he did.”

Sleep well Mario safe in the knowledge you're loved by your manager.

You'll never walk alone ha!!!

What a charlatan. You don't hear managers qualifying why they bought a player when they've not been a success - in the manner of "well he was a gamble and it was the best we could do in the short time" - I mean we've never heard Martinez qualifying how buying Kone (1 start and a few subs) in 18 months hasn't been a "mistake" or somesuch.

PS Happy Birthday tomorrow to this thread - 3 years old and doing well.

Can you imagine his small talk with his squeeze? You know, in a, ahem, personal moment?

The mind does actually boggle.

And I sooooo wish Spitting Image was still around. The fun they could have with him would be immense.

He throws all his players under the bus except the one that can cause mayhem for him: GBH. Gerrard stinks the place out more than Balotelli but is still 'world class'.

Those Liverpool players must despise him.

He's gonna look such a tit when the yanks catapult him out of Melwood.. I mean, you know, more than usual.
