ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

Ashamed of Nothing FC manager Brendan "Waffle" Rodgers: "It was an outstanding performance, our passing and movement on the pitch, which is terrible, was superb. (I suppose he needs to try and keep his job someway or other)

"We deserved to be one up at half-time and I don't think it was a free-kick in the build-up to their second. Alexis Sanchez dived for me and the referee bought it, but we have to defend better. We lost three duels and we need to win the first one.

"I'm delighted with our performances this week against Manchester United, Bournemouth and Arsenal, it shows we are getting back to where we are.

All I see when he's quoted is a block of text.

The words just merge together and mean nothing.

God knows what he sounded like when he said that.

Borini had more shots on target (2) in the match than any other player apart from Gerrard (3), despite only taking 11 touches and being on the pitch for 15 minutes.

It is clear that Rodgers and Borini have fallen out and stunts like getting sent off for two stupid yellow cards are unlikely to improve that relationship. But given their other striker options surprised Rodgers hasn't been pragmatic and played him anyway, goals can cure a lot of issues.

Not the first time Mr Clever has blamed the pitch. After the Southampton game in August.

#LFC boss also critical of Anfield playing surface. Reckons it's too slow. Says the Etihad tonight will suit his players much better

Also from the echo:

Rodgers is confident the Reds will raise the bar following their unconvincing opening weekend victory over Saints when they were indebted to Daniel Sturridge’s late winner.

The manager insists the Anfield playing surface was partly responsible for a display lacking tempo.

“Yes, maybe the fluency wasn’t there but we weren’t helped by the pitch,” he said.

“The pitch doesn’t help us at Anfield because the pitch is too slow. It’s not good at all. But there’s nothing we can do at this stage.

“The watering system is outdated so the speed of our game is sometimes slowed down compared to when we play on other pitches. The game was too slow for us".

Got beat at the Etihad.

Real Madrid had no problem playing a fast game on the same pitch.
