ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

That doesn't answer my question and I can't compute why Sturridge
would leave Liverpool where he has developed into a world class striker because Brendan Rodgers stopped him playing for England- something which will never happen.

I wish we'd let people like this stay for a bit, just for the pure humour involved.

Sturridge in the two years he has joined Liverpool has scored 33 league goals. Around about 15-16 a season. This is hardly world class, it is a decent return. It's an identical return to the teenager Lukaku and for one of those seasons he was playing alongside Suarez who'd have made anyone look good.

Now Suarez has gone, Sturridge will never get near to scoring 20 goals in a season and will be back at scoring 10-11 goals a season like he was before Suarez was on form. He is a very ordinary striker with a very modest goal return and in honesty would probably be warming our bench behind Lukaku if he was here.

On them winning the FA Cup Rodgers will bottle it. United or Arsenal will beat them. The first decent team (ie top half of the premier league) they have to play they will get knocked out by. They are fortunate they have got through to the semi's without having to beat anybody decent.

But but but but... what if they draw Reading/Bradford in the next round, and Arsenal or United bottle it against WBA or Villa (certainly possible)? I wouldn't bet against that happening, it's the rs after all, they get the likes of Birmingham, West Ham and Cardiff in cup finals

I wouldn't be worrying too much. Bradford could easily turn them over before his birthday bash final....lets face it they did Chelsea at The Bridge and not many teams do that. The fairytale wave of support would be with Bradford rather than Gerrard winning the cup...hes already had his Gerrard Cup Final remember. Hes a multi millionaire leaving because hes too old to cut it now and seeking the golden sunset/handshake of the west coast...and that's fair enough I guess in this bubble these players live in. But I certainly don't see a tearjerker in that....and I guess most rational people wouldn't. Different if it had been last season....and he'd fell over spreadeagled... and lost his team their holy grail of the Premiership Title.... in his last game.... and the one thing he coveted that had always eluded him. Its gone.

to be fair Sturridge is a very good striker, streets ahead of Welbeck and better than Lukaku currently. Annoying as he is, Sturridge is probably the only player that is worthy of the hype he receives, spend and spend as he does Rodgers just cant seem to buy a quality player...as said he didn't even want Sturridge, maybe the yanks telling him who to buy should be their new policy.

LOL. Haven't you met our media? You'd have thought they'd be rooting for the underdog in AFC Wimbledon in the 3rd round, but no. Of course it was ALL about Stevie G. Constant fawning over him and talking about how he's still their best player. They were desperate for the plucky League 2 side to lose that game

His goal record is significantly inferior to Lukaku. The hype around him would have you believe otherwise.

Yes, the more I think about it, the more you can see that Suarez really was the real deal for them and raised them to another level. Even Torres was never that good. I've never hated a player quite like Suarez, he is the epitome of a scumbag, but really what a player. And how funny of Brent to think he could have survived without him.

As for Sturridge he is a fairly bog standard decent striker. He is the Andy Cole or Ian Wright of his generation, but nowhere near as prolific as either of those players, but similar in style. He is quick and not a bad finisher. It's only really in England where such players are viewed in such a positive light.

The point about Wellbeck is fair too. He does a lot of work for the wider good of the team yet receives very few plaudits. Neither Sturridge nor Wellbeck will ever be prolific but I know who I'd rather have in my team.

As for internationals, yes I don't mind them playing them too. I have always thought the Ingerland circus was made for Liverpool really. Cringey home counties beauts who've got rop all else in their lives desperately trying to whip up a bit of national pride because their own teams are uniformly awful. A lot of them will even support your Liverpools of this world. The fan fare and cringyness of the Liverpool bandwagon fits perfectly to the general drudgery and goonishness of the national team as well. Long may it continue.
The way Sturridge and Sterling are treated like they're special cargo over there is unbelievable. They are way, way short of the ability that usually gets that treatment. Prolonged holidays for Sterling and the gently easing back into first team action of Sturridge over 5 months out suggests they're top drawer players. They're way off it. They really do elevate good players to star players very easily over there. The whole Gerrard stuff underlines that. A player who is no more than a superior PL player pumped up and overinflated to 'best PL player of all time'. For anyone objectively looking at it he struggles to make a top 20 player of the PL era.

Yeah I worked in it quite a few years ago now....bit different now. I couldn't care less about today's tabloids...they've always been kissing his arse so its nothing new. Stuff him.

I doubt you'd find many outside the cult that would even say he's Liverpool's best player of the PL.

They clearly have a great desire for heroes. They can’t be like we were in 2004/5 essentially a well oiled workmanlike team with no outstanding individual. If that was them they’d have sold Rooney the season before, replaced him with Marcus Bent and be convincing everyone that Bent was actually world class and better than Rooney and that only a biased media prevented this acknowledgement.

It stunts them majorly though. They don’t recognise who there top quality players are and are not. The media don’t pull them up on their stupidity. The sort of stupidity that allowed slippy G to make Alonso seem dispensable. To sell Mascherano.

They have had a number of world class players over the last 15 years, what’s great is they were never recognised as such. Alonso, Mascherano and Reina spring to mind, all binned off because of kopite revisionism.

As for Stirling how he has become the greatest hope of a generation over Barkley I’ll never know. The “build your team” around him shouts, from a player who is inherently selfish and unintelligent is completely stupid.

And when you look at the statistics they bear that out. Just because Liverpool fans and the media label their players world class doesn’t make it so. A few on here would do well to remember that. Anyone would think Sturridge had scored 15 league goals more times in his career than Lukaku with the way people go on.

Oh come on, he was an outstanding player at his peak, no question at all he is defo in the top 3 of Premiership Era midfielders, sorry like, but he was an actual real player. Nothing close to the player he was the last few years, but still won matches on his own at times, I for 1 am counting down the days until he leaves.

Yeah. Wellbeck is gash.

*sigh*
a striker who can't score goals is a player who can be improved on

welbeck has the tools but is no better than your emile heskeys really because he cant put them to use. arsenal will be rid of him in a year or two, destined to be a journeyman
