ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

The club have hung him out to dry. They have leaked how much they were offering him. You also had Brent going on about how advanced contract talks were with the insinuation being that if he doesn't sign it's his own fault.

Aside from that it's another classic example of Brent's stupidity. Last year he said he was "the best young player in Europe". He's not even in the top 3 young players on Merseyside. Suffice to say being spoken up as a superstar he wants superstars wages. Liverpool are then subsequently in a hole.

The fans are starting to turn on him. I hope Real Madrid go in with a really cheeky cut price bid in the summer of 18 million or something.

There's an absolute crackerjack of a post on page 16 there where a poster says "we've done really well to become a team trying to challenge for the CL season in season out when we were nearly in administration" hahahaha yeah you've only spent about 600m you bad Kopite scruff to do what you were doing 15 years ago which is try and scrape a top 4 position. The money that lot have spent, if that was us I would have expected 2 titles, 3 fa cups a carling cup or 2 and European football every bloody season minimum.

"Not a groundbreaking interview. His family don't want him here, particularly his mother. They're not happy with his development...he's not happy with his development. The biggest issue/s for them back in November was apparently Raheem being overplayed - which seemed an unfair criticism, although we bowed to it by giving him time off - and his constantly switching position, which is a fairer grievance."

Didn't know his family weren't happy. Perhaps started when theyfelt he was underpaid and wasn't offered a new contract in the summer rather than waiting until partway through this and then escalated to other issues?

@TonyEvansTimes: Ok *deep breath* Sterling. Wait until you've read the lot. He's been underpaid since he was 18. The 30k (now 35) was a bad deal. It should have been 50k rising with appearances. It's cost the kid a lot of money and others were earning far more and contributing less. Now, he was offered 100k. Asked for 140k. That's more than Sturridge, who FSG think will be the star.

I cant see how that can be unless it was on the proviso Liverpool qualified for the CL / committed to x amount of funds for team building.

If he is signing why not now to get the critics off his back?

Exactly right.

They just don't live in the real world do they though these players? Look at that tweet, "he should have been on 50k instead if 35k" yep cos 35k is an absolute disgrace for a kid his age, christ only knows how he and his family must have survived on that money. Fair play to any sports man or woman earning major dollar but when he says it's not about the money, well of course it is and they are talking about figures we can only dream off. Glad it's the shytes problem and not ours anyway as I wouldn't be happy with any of our players in the news talking about what they do or should be earning.

@davek Stinks of Agent [Poor language removed] stirring, 20 year olds only his second full season in the team and probably one good season worthy of a new contract, 2 years left on his contract too. Tony Evans has come to his 'rescue' though. Only on £35k a week at 19.

Not a pot to piss in the poor kid.

It's absolutely mad. As you say, if people offer players this money you cant expect them to turn it down. But FFS, in an era of zero hour contracts they and their agents need to keep their heads down. I realise the clubs are responsible for leaking these stories, but it's only usually after some mammoth wage has been punted by the greedy gets in the first place.

Yeah, 20 year old or not, he's the employer though. He needs to see that it's him not his agent that carries the can. And if your adviser has got you to a point like this he's utterly failed you...it's not just their job to boost your wages, they're there also to make sure the image isn't tarnished.

PMSL at it all tbh. The Kopites can drive him out of town with sticks for all I care.

I think that's the reality of their lives mate, as in its pure fantasy. You mentioned a couple of days ago about the charity match and what did they do after that match? Yep, go out for a lavish party no expense spared. It was an organised piss up of the rich basically taking the piss. I used to live not far from the ground and they've literally left that place to ruin. I've spoken to Patrick ( who owns Epsteins on Anfield Road ), he's a character but you can hear the anger in his voice about how they stripped the life out of the surrounding area. Then you have these players of theirs openly talking about "no I wouldn't sign a 100k contract if it was put in front of me". That just doesn't sit right with me that and if that was an Everton player saying shyt like that I can guarantee they wouldn't be an Everton player within 24 hours of that comment. Of course Everton players are on ridiculous wages as well ( I can't get my head around how anyone can earn over 5k a week for being good at togger lol ), but it's important they don't rub people's noses in it and you keep your head down and try and put in a shift on the pitch and we don't question their wages. We are all cut from a different cloth than them, they are all rats being led a merry dance by Peter Pan aka Liverpool football club, established cult since (insert preferred year here)

On the one hand yes, but on the other when the club you are at pay Glen Johnson 120 a week you'd probably wonder.

As you say, glad we are just bystanders to all this and that Barkley signed his deal without involving the press at all. Think this is the third time Sterling's agent has brought up the contract situation around a big Liverpool game.
